[When the radio clicks on, the first thing listeners might notice is the whistling of the wind, as though the person on the other end is very high up somewhere. Really, Desmond just needed to process everything, after waking up in the city. He hadn't even though to get his hand looked at, so shocked was he by what was happening.]

So uhh...I'm supposed to be dead. Someone wanna shed a little light on why I'm not? I mean...I got the whole "Welcome to the back of a Giant Turtle" spiel from the guys in that Welcome Center place, but...they wouldn't answer why I'm not a corpse right now.

[He coughs.]

I mean...I don't wanna sound ungrateful or anything, I'm glad I'm alive or whatever, but...there was a good reason why I was supposed to be dead.

I'm...not sure if it's a good thing or not. What does it say about me that I'm so used to weird stuff like this?

See, that's the thing. The way the choice was put to me, I either let most of the people on earth die, and in turn become some kind of New Age Jesus-type figure to the few left, or I save the whole planet, and unleash a disembodied psycopath on it instead. I chose the latter, because I figured my friends could deal with the disembodied psychpath after I was gone.

Honestly though? It doesn't feel too bad, aside of this wicked burn I've got on my hand. Should probably get it looked at.

To be honest, I can't blame you... I wouldn't want to let people die, either. I rather save people, even if my friends didn't like it.

It was a stupid choice, really. I mean...who the hell wants to become Jesus? Nobody listens to him anymore anyway, right?

[Considering that Juno showed him that in time, his message would become corrupted, just like Jesus' had.]

Yeah, I think so. Part of the whole "dying to save everyone" thing involved me putting my hand on a thing to turn it on. "Quick and painless" my ass, it hurts like hell!

Kid, don't believe anyone who tells you something is quick and painless... it never is.

But to get back to your earlier question, I think it just says that you've been through a lot more weird stuff than I have.

[Dante sighs.]

You'd thinking coming where I have, living on a Giant Turtle wouldn't be a hard thing to believe but, nah, that ain't how my brain works.

Yeah, I guess I should've seen that coming. Guess I just wasn't expecting to get my hand barbecued for my trouble.

Maybe? I mean...my life was relatively normal up until a few months ago, then everything got weird and complicated, and I got a crash course in figuring it out as I go along.

My name's Dante. I hunted demons back at home -- that was my normal. Thankfully, my world isn't going to be conquered by demons any time soon while I'm here.

[Even though he said that, he missed home.]

Demons? Seriously? Suddenly, my life seems pretty goddamn normal by comparison.

Seriously. You should feel lucky... they're not fun to deal with.

What changed your life around?

I can imagine, if they're anything like what you read about.

You're gonna think I'm crazy, but getting kidnapped by Templars, and being put in a machine that lets me relive the memories of my ancestors. Before that I was tending bar, paying my rent in tip money every week.

[redfiend]

Not all of them are bad. I have a close friend that's one and, well, there's stories of a demon that turned against his own kind for humans.

[That demon was his father, but he didn't want to mention that detail right now.]

That's not really crazy, to be honest. I'd take it over what I've had to deal with over the years.
