[Penny's sitting in a public cafe, looking as generally stoic and grumpy as ever.]

I need someone with medical skills, like a nurse or something. And someone who can prescribe drugs, or sells them. You can meet me here if you don't want to answer, but don't waste my time.

[He provides the name of the cafe and its address, then pauses. He's not the most talkative guy.]

Listen, mate. I'm not playing 20 questions here. I'm more than happy to give you painkillers, but I need to know specifics.

That depends how minor. I've assisted registrars and consultants with surgery before.

Removing something sharp from a spinal cord.

We might need to get one of the doctors involved. That's a bit beyond my paygrade.

Emergency triage, ward management and assisting in emergency surgery.

For what reason do you require drugs?

I doubt you'd believe me if I told you.

Try me. I am a doctor, and I would like to be able to assist you if I could- but I need to know a bit more first.

I'm a psychic and this asshole called The Beast used to let himself into my head a lot, so I got a patch to temporarily fix it. But it has downsides too. Now that I'm here, I want to remove the damn thing with surgery and see if I can get it under control again. Except I need painkillers to block out the other voices if they get too loud. That's the easiest, safest way.

[Simon sucked in a breath at that, then nodded slowly.]

That- is definitely not the strangest thing I have heard here, actually. I find that believable. Do you plan on having someone attempt the surgery while you are here? Depending on what sort of patch you are talking about, I may be able to do it.

[Oh. Well that was.. surprisingly easy. Penny's attitude lightens a little.]

I'm trying to find someone. It's got a bunch of metal spikes sticking into my spinal cord, so I'd like to find a surgeon who won't fuck it up.

Will you get me the pills?

I was a surgeon back home... but I understand if you don't trust just anybody to do it right away. Spinal procedures are... delicate at the best of times.

[Simon crossed his arms and thought for a moment.]

If you tell me you won't fuck it up, I'll trust you not to fuck it up. Not like I have a lot of options.

I will send you directions to the Healers' Guild.

And I can understand that mentality if you are desperate, but still- I want my patients to build a level of trust me, if it's possible.

I am a Healer, and have learned something of the local herbs. I don't know if you're looking for something stronger, but I have found equivalents to some of the things on my world... it would help to know what the use is. Anti-inflammatory? Topical numbing?

[Drake spreads his hands. Like he said, what he knows of may not be enough, but it's hard to tell with so little information!]

Painkillers. For.. headaches. Really bad ones.

The tea I drink probably wouldn't be enough for you if they're very bad. But if you get any particularly awful instances, I could soothe it on a case-by-case basis for you.

Nothing permanent, I'm afraid. Not unless it's caused by something like restricted blood flow, or an over-stimulated nerve cluster, or something else purely physical. Those things, I can simply fix.
