[From the moment the feed began, Zatanna's surroundings were a little more visible than usual. The Welcome Center, with her leaning slightly back. Clearly prepared to get comfortable if necessary. As if she planned on sitting there for a while.]
Hey, everyone.
[And to start, she waved at the camera. Master of showmanship, this one.]
Okay, so, most of you probably at least recognize my face by now. Because if not, I'm so not doing my job properly.
I'm Zatanna. I run the Welcome Center, and...well, let's just say there's a reason for that. I've kind of been here a while. Like, a really long while. Including that year we all spent in the Dreaming Realm...probably more than five years by now. Man, time sure does fly when you adjust to your kidnapping, huh?
[Jokes aside...]
A lot's happened in that time. I mean, we're talking everything from zombies to ghost possessions to baby turtles dream-hopping to people's powers getting all messed up. We used to have Emperors, you know. Like an actual monarchy. Oh, and that whole thing with the shell starting to glow? Yeah, that's definitely not new, though I haven't seen it since Ast--I mean, the Great Turtle was busy not being in a coma.
So, yeah, I guess if anybody has any questions on that sort of thing, I'm here to answer them as best as I can. I mean, I figured, share the wealth, you know? Since you all deserve to know what kind of place you were brought to, and how this whole thing all started in the first place.
((ooc: As I mentioned here, I did recently put together a basic list of plot-relevant events of the past for newcomers to check out. But here's a chance for your characters to get in on the story IC. Not ALL of it, of course, and these stories will be told from Zatanna's IC perspective, which can sometimes be a bit misleading or even missing information...but fellow Turtle Veterans are also welcome to join in on conversations. Mix and mingle and possibly threadjack at will!))

Sometimes he's accompanied by a pale man with red hair that never smiled in his whole life.

[The sarcasm in his voice could cut steel.]

You couldn't just move?
I mean, I get for some people, it might be a little harder than that...but you haven't been here all that long, have you? And if you hate the guys that much, wouldn't it just be easier to switch to another Sector?
no subject
[Plus the houses in the sky sectors are for free.]
If things get worse we might move but for now...
no subject
She's pretty lucky to have someone like you around. Not everyone would be willing to stay for their girlfriend's happiness if people they hated that much moved in nearby.
[brb totally making assumptions here. But only because she thought it was sweet.]
no subject
Oh...oh, no, we aren't together like that.
no subject
But you are together in some way.
[Word choice. She'll get you every time with it, Poe.]
no subject
[Oh, that's fine. Poe likes to play.]
It's called being housemates.
no subject
[This is the best ga--wait a second.]
...not at the same time, of course.
[JUST IN CASE HE HAD ANY QUIPPY IDEAS OF HIS OWN.]
no subject
And why not? It's not bad to be ambitious.
[Look what you started, Zatanna.]
no subject
NoregretsOnly minimal regrets, at most.]Is that what you are? Ambitious?
[An eyebrow went up at that; he might have been teasing here, but he was the one coming off less than noble in that exchange.]
[But then, in an effort to keep things fairly light--]
I hope this Rey of yours doesn't mine sharing, in that case.
no subject
Not at all.
[He comes from a galaxy far far away, this is not his thing but it's probably someone else's and not so frowned upon.]
There's a war going on in my world, it's not a very good idea to date a pilot. Our life expectancy isn't the greatest.
I'm not sure if she does but I can tell you that she deserves so much better than what I could ever give her if that were the case.
[Weep, this conversation used to be light. Sorry, Zatanna.]
no subject
[And yet, strangely enough...she could empathize. Somewhat. To a degree, even with the 'war' part. Life as a vigilante was filled with similar dangers, and on top of that...she had spent the majority of her teenage years residing on the back of an on-again, off-again war-ridden turtle. She knew the dangerous of battle better than many, if not as much as some, and it was for that reason...her eyes softened at his response. Wondering if she had actually touched upon something deeper than relationship jokes.]
There is another way to look at it, you know.
[A philosophy she's lived by ever since she was a little girl. One that...hasn't always worked out for her, to be fair, but it's also gotten her some pretty great stories.]
If you're not that sure about your future, then live in the moment. Don't let something pass you by just because you think it won't last. Enjoy it while it does.

Poe's mother was a pilot too and she died when he was six years old. His father raised him well but Poe can't bear the idea of doing that to someone; of making them wonder if they would be back from a mission or not. He doesn't expect to live long enough to get a family of his own. But Zatanna's words cheer him up and he gives her a soft smile.]
It's a nice way to see things. I try to follow that philosophy when I can.
no subject
[No, really. She actually was. She wasn't going to get into the details of how and why he was in such a position, but she was sure he would be all the better for it if he followed their own advice. Like she did.]
So no more of that 'she deserves better' stuff, got it?
I mean, unless she thinks so too. Which I somehow doubt.
no subject
You know, I think you would like Rey if you ever met.
no subject
Is she cute?
[Asking, as if it were an afterthought. Partially to see what Poe's answer would be.]
no subject
Rey has more qualities than just her looks but yes, she's very cute. She scrunches her nose sometimes when she's concentrating really hard.
[And watch Poe totally misunderstand Zatanna's interest.]
She's single too.
no subject
Oh, good. She can join the club. [Her voice notably flattened. She nearly sighed.] Maybe we should think about getting tshirts or something. Seeking solidarity in our simultaneous single...ness.
[The alliteration almost got away from her.]
no subject
Oh, lovely. We could also get ourselves matching friendship bracelets while we are at it.
But thank you for letting me know you are single too, I'll make sure to pass the information to her.
[Was this not what you wanted?]
no subject
[Not even close.]
no subject
Okay, I'll stop now, promise.
no subject
No, you won't.
