So, hey...

[Hey, Keelial. Remember him? He looks a lot more tired than before, his hair is ruffled and his shirt looks partly undone. It looks like he's sat in the College.]

Anyone noticed the pattern on the Turtle's shell? It's... pulsing. It started like... three? Four days ago? The time between the pulses is getting shorter.

I'm not sure what this means, but... hey. It sounds important, right? I've done some math and, well... I think... [Yawn.] ...I think the pulses are gonna stop in a week or so. If the period between them keeps getting shorter.

Assuming that's what this is.

[You're destroying what little is left of Conan's faith in other people's observational ability.]

How could everyone miss that?

I'll hope that everyone just decided not to say anything. It leaves me with a little hope that not everyone here is completely unobservant.

Not at my home either. Not without fluorescent paint or some other trick.

[He pauses thoughtfully.]

Although there was the case of the blush mermaid recently. That turtle didn't glow, but it did glitter rather nicely.

It was a jewel. The actress who previously owned it had been a passenger on a cruiseship that sank. In order to ensure that her pet turtle would be rescued and cared for by someone, she glued her jewels to the turtle's shell and released it into the ocean.

Not long before I arrived here, a famous jewel thief at home tried to steal it.

[ Conan shakes his head.]

She died in the shipwreck, so we can't ask her what she was thinking. Perhaps she panicked and could not think of any other way to protect her pet.

But her gamble did work. A passing boat saw the light reflect off the jewels and picked it up. And Uncle Jirokichi bought it for a lot of money. He plans to give it a good home after it sheds the outer layers of its shell.

And the turtle was not harmed. Super glue and epoxy have been used before to repair damaged turtle shells.

I'm a detective. It's important for a detective to know a lot of things about a lot of different subjects. Because you never know what might be important later.

I'm just good at listening. I live in a detective agency back home, so I hear a lot.

Mmm! I'm going to be just as good a detective as Uncle Kogoro and Shinichi-niichan! [Neither would be difficult. Because he was Shinichi and he was already solving all of Old Man Kogoro's cases for him. ]

I want to be like a real life Holmes.

There's a lot more to Sherlock Holmes than that, you know.

I think it was in one of Uncle's books on criminology.
