001 Video
[Charles had actually spent a bit of time investigating this whole ‘personal computer’ situation and while he’d been dubious at first, the more he’d read about the system, what it was capable of, he was delighted! Then he’d been distracted for a day or so in simply learning all he could about the technology.
However, the warning from the kedan who had rescued him still echoed in his head. He needed to find some sort of work, something he’d never actually had to seek out in his life. A small part of him wondered at the laugh Raven would have if she could see his predicament over having to ask about a job, the thought bringing sorrow to his eyes but a small smile to his lips as he reached to turn on the video feed.
The sorrow was quickly wiped away, replaced with his trademark friendly smile and earnest expression as the display snapped to life.]
Ah, excellent just like it said it would work.
Hello! [He offered with a practiced good cheer.] My name is Charles Xavier and I am what I suppose you would call a recent arrival to Tu Vishan and this city, Keeliai; do hope I pronounced those correctly.
Interesting name, Tu Vishan and I would be quite curious to hear what the others who have been brought here make of our situation? [He can’t help asking!]
But of more immediate concern, I’ve been told that I need to search out employment. I fear that for personal reasons anything to do with heavy lifting is out of the question but I was wondering if there were any libraries that might require assistance?
[Seemed a good way to combine the chance to learn more about this place with the necessary employment requirement; at least in the short term.]

[They likely exist, though Favrielle herself hasn't yet been to one.]

That would probably preclude any bookstores as well. Right, then what sort of jobs are available? Outside of those involving manual labor?

While my rescuers were most forth coming, I can not imagine the history of an entire culture fully encompassed in a few hours.

You might run into a little trouble working at a library, unless you can read the native language.

Steph! Splendid and it is a pleasure to meet you. Well, it sounds as if I may have trouble working at a library simply because they do not appear to be plentiful in this place. I would have thought there may be one or two about but I am hearing quite the opposite.

...Professor Xavier?
[There is a not-quite-human young woman on the camera looking confused at you, Chuck.]

[It was still difficult to think of himself as 'Professor', even with Alex and Sean calling him that almost exclusively in the last few days.

Where's Victor?
[Demanding, not asking.]

[He does not know anyone named Victor (yet) though you certainly look, somewhat familiar.]

Want to know what I think of this place? It sucks on a major level but there's maybe one or two things are are pretty fresh.
[Kon's sitting back in his chair at his desk and peeking over the rim of his Lennon shades.]
[Video]
That was certainly to the point. Charles arched an eyebrow at the term 'book worm' though supposed it was accurate enough not to warrant a comment.]
And a welcome to you as well. [He said with a half smile.] You do certainly appear to have formed a strong opinion, have you been here long then?

video;
I think it looks like a buncha people here know you, Mr. Xavier. Professor Xavier?
[Quick shrug.]
The whole thing with time displacement seems to be quite common, don't let it rattle you. I come from 1945, a lot of the people here come from at least half a century later, and some are from a completely different universe, so... make of that what you will.
And there can be other things to do here that aren't being a librarian, but are still within range. Just how much of a problem is the physical limitation personal reason... thing?
video;
[Still probably going to throw him a little but hearing someone else from around the same time period sounding so calm about the situation, was ... helpful.
As for the question, that sobered him a little and he shifted in the chair.]
It is, well to be honest its a rather recent development. I was, hit in the back by a ... by a stray bullet. Just before I was pulled here, I had lost all feeling and response in my lower limbs, then I woke up here, in the water, my back was quite painful but I could feel my legs.
video;
video;
Yeah, sure. You're Charles Xavier, and I'm the Queen of Sheba.
[You have WAY too much hair to pull it off, sir.]
Re: video;
[This will mark the second time his identity has been directly questioned and someone may be getting a bit bratty. He's twenty-nine, not his sedate sixty-something at this point.
Though, really does he ever stop having bratty moments?
Along with the words comes a very Xavier-esq look, complete with arched eyebrow.]

There are a lot of kedan who hire people like us, but I dunno if any of them maintain private libraries. The closest I've seen is my job - the herbalist I work for has a bunch of scrolls on medicines and stuff like that.
[ Oh, and before he forgets. ]
Name's Kid Flash.
video
[Charles responded to the introduction first, as that was polite after all. Then he sobered a little.]
Herbalist? Well, I suppose something like that or if there are perhaps any sort of academic facilities around? [He was probably stretching here but of the jobs he'd seen mentioned by the kedan, Charles was not sure he would be up to the physical labor odd jobs.
Though, he may have to try his best if all other options were unavailable.]

[Morwen, a red-headed woman with delicate features and a no-nonsense attitude, is sitting at her console, and has a quill pen resting upright in an ink bottle at one elbow, just visible in the frame.]
My name is Morwen. A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Xavier.
[He didn't give a title, so she goes with basic courtesy.]
[video]
I am afraid that I have not gotten the responses I had hoped for in regards to a library, though some have suggested that the Empress may have access to some sort of active facility.

Charles Xavier, huh. As in, Professor X? Yeah right, he's like, 80.
no subject
Well, I suppose eventually if I am lucky I'll be in my eighties but for the moment I am in my late twenties.
(no subject)
[video]
Charles Xavier as in... Professor X? Magneto's BFF?
[ A pause and a nervous swallow, and then she tightens her jaw, trying to hide real fear behind suspicion and sarcasm. ] So... d'you think while you're here you could not screw around in people's heads? At all? Ever? 'Cause I've already dealt with fallout from that sort of thing - like, twice - and I'm really not looking forward to a round three.
[video]
Erik and I were friends, yes. As for your request, I am not quite sure how to address that as I have no way of knowing what will transpire in this place and I am not interested in giving promises to something when I have no idea what you are talking about.

I have a similar problem, to be honest. I've been doing some accounting for a place near by suite - honestly, I'm not sure they didn't just give me the job out of pity, but I've been trying not to let it hurt my pride too much. If you can find kedan who are friendly to foreigners, you may be able to work out something similar.
[video]
Thank you for the suggestion. If a couple of my other possible options do not turn out I will find myself in that same situation and hope I can find a friendly kedan.
[Pride be damned!]
