002: [Video]

[Victor looks a little annoyed when he turns on his console tonight. Behind him, the view of his suite is blocked by some rock. A big, talking rock to be exact. Santo's right there behind him.]

Hey, everyone. I've got a question for everyone that's familiar with superheroes. It's about the costumes. They're an important thing to have, right? For a lot of reasons like protecting and hiding secret identities.

But this guy [He jerks a thumb over his shoulder at Santo.] just says they're stupid.

Don't get me wrong, the costumes are cool but that's about it. Wearing one just to hide your identity is what's stupid. You don't see Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, or Hawkeye worried about people knowing who they are. Hell, Luke Cage doesn't even wear a costume and he kicks all kinds of ass!

Besides, you don't see any X-Men hiding behind a mask.


[Victor just rolls his eyes.]

Lots of X-Men have worn masks. [He shakes his head.] So what do you guys think? Costumes important for superheroes or not?

The answer is obviously not.

[Victor doesn't even bother replying. He just gives Santo a look.]

Not everyone has a skintight costume though.

Yeah. The good ones are skintight. For the record, capes are stupid.

I don't know, I don't think Iron Man's armor would be very good skin tight. And the more padding on Wolverine's to keep it from being skin tight, the better.

Capes aren't all bad. They can be pretty useful.

Dude, I was talking about chicks. Thanks, now I'm imagining Wolverine in--...

[he just stops himself and pulls a face.]

How? 'part from making you look dorky, they don't really have any use.

Hey, some guys rock the skintight look too.

[Vic is sorry for the mental image. He really is.]

Well aside from adding a nice dramatic flare, they can be used to alter and control how fast and in what direction you fall. And they're pretty useful for keeping warm on cooler or windier nights.

Uh yeah. Me.

[God that's going to be in his head forever.]

Pfft. That's stupid. It just get in the way of your movement and makes too much noise in the wind.

True. You do look pretty damn hot in that costume. [He smirks.] You're not the only one though.

[He'll find a way to make it up to him.]

If you know how to move with one, it doesn't get in the way and they don't make that much noise. Especially not in a noisy city.

[Ok, that's a step over the boundary that has Tommy getting a bit awkward. Not that he doesn't mind being hit on, but it's a bit weird when it's a dude. Flattering all the same. But his voice does take a hit, and he's not quite as smug as he used to be.]

Kate designed it to make my best features look better.

[Hence the arrow pointing to his crotch.]

Yeah, well. They're stupid.

[Victor doesn't push things past that comment. He pauses for a moment when he picks up on that change but he doesn't comment on it.]

She designed it? She did a good job. I always wondered where most heroes got their costumes.

[Vic shakes his head.] Just because they're not practical for speedsters doesn't mean that other heroes can use them.

Where d'you get yours? The locker room at X-School?

[he grins a bit.]

Not unless you wanna look stupid.

Lemme guess, you have a cape.

Beast makes them in his lab. He's got a machine down there that makes uniforms.

[He clears his throat and his cheeks go a little darker green with a blush.]

I use one sometimes.

[crotcharrow]

Wow, like a uniform for every type, right? That's gotta be expensive to source outside the school to make a machine.

[He raises an eyebrow, a smirk forming.]

Called it.

Maybe. The uniforms are adaptive. Like my friend Ben, his uniform is fire-proof so he doesn't burn it off himself. And Cessily's stretches with her. [He shrugs.] Krakoa takes care of our money problems anyway.

What? It's a useful cape.

[crotcharrow]

[He blinks.] Who?

--And no capes are useful.

Ben and Cessily are classmates. And Krakoa well...he's sort of a sentient chunk of land. He can do things like grow trees that grow diamonds instead of fruit.

Hey, the cape keeps me warm and helps when I'm leaping rooftops.

[crotcharrow]

... I can see how that comes in handy.

[He raises an eyebrow.] Is that all it does?

Basically it pays for the entire school.

Some people said it made me look kind of badass...

They did. I read about it while I was doing some research.

You researched capes and you think that makes you look like a badass?

[Vic rolls his eyes.]

No, I was researching something else and came across the comment.

I was investigating something Rockslide and I were dealing with. Some guys working for Mr. Negative were trying to kill a woman and I was trying to find out why.
