[Victor looks a little annoyed when he turns on his console tonight. Behind him, the view of his suite is blocked by some rock. A big, talking rock to be exact. Santo's right there behind him.]

Hey, everyone. I've got a question for everyone that's familiar with superheroes. It's about the costumes. They're an important thing to have, right? For a lot of reasons like protecting and hiding secret identities.

But this guy [He jerks a thumb over his shoulder at Santo.] just says they're stupid.

Don't get me wrong, the costumes are cool but that's about it. Wearing one just to hide your identity is what's stupid. You don't see Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, or Hawkeye worried about people knowing who they are. Hell, Luke Cage doesn't even wear a costume and he kicks all kinds of ass!

Besides, you don't see any X-Men hiding behind a mask.


[Victor just rolls his eyes.]

Lots of X-Men have worn masks. [He shakes his head.] So what do you guys think? Costumes important for superheroes or not?

The answer is obviously not.

[Victor doesn't even bother replying. He just gives Santo a look.]

And, conversely, very few of our teams go for matching uniforms. Everyone's from different cities, with their own hassles to deal with on their own. They just work together on a regular basis. Well, except the Lantern Corps, but that's a different story.

[She pauses, raising an eyebrow.]

Fantastic Four? Don't sound too open to new recruits, then. I suppose in our world it's more about what you do, and whether you're out to make a totally new heritage or are a part of another one.

Matching uniforms are pretty rare where I'm from too. The logos just show up on their stuff like the planes and the front gate to their base. All the t-shirts and posters that get sold too.

They usually aren't but there have been times when there's been more than the four of them.

Sorry, matching logos, then, not uniforms. [Because haha, no, the Justice League having matching logos? She can see Bruce's reaction to that--and snickers slightly.]

Yeah, in our world individual costumes and symbols carry a lot of weight, no matter the person who wears it.

I guess there's no reason to have a team insignia if you've already got one for everyone on the team.

[Victor nods a bit.] Even still, a t-shirt and jeans isn't the most practical superhero attire. I mean, they're not exactly the most durable things in the world and unless they don't have a secret ID, it would totally mess with their casual wear options.

[She holds up her hands.] Don't look at me, I have no idea how it works. For that matter, I have no idea how Superman's cape survives supersonic speeds.

[Ignore that faint smirk.] Either way, I haven't noticed much in the way of 'practicality' in most superhero wear. Is that actually different, in your world?

Unstable molecules? [He shrugs.] That's usually how to explain costume things where I come from.

Oh, there are plenty of people without practicality in mind for their costumes. One of my teachers comes immediately to mind. Her costumes are a sort of secret frequent topic of conversation among many of my classmates. But for others...things like 'does it protect my identity' and 'is is bullet proof' are very important.

[She laughs.] I'll ask him next time I see him.

Some people manage to have that kind of practicality in my world, too. It just seems to be kind of a rare occurrence. [After a moment, an eyebrow goes up.] Frequent secret topic of conversation? [From her tone, she can guess. And oh, teenagers.]

[He grins.] Great.

Someone should encourage more practicality. [Victor rubs the back of his neck a moment.] Yeah, the other guys tended to talk a lot about how some of our one teacher's costumes were pretty much underwear or less. [Yes, teenagers.]

Now there's an idea for a college course. "Practical Costumes for the Aspiring Superhero 101."

[Oh, boys. She shakes her head.] I hope she can hand them their asses in a gift-wrapped box.

Maybe I should suggest it to my teachers back home.

Oh, believe me she can. She's one of the most powerful telepaths on the planet and can turn herself into living diamond. It would be a very classy, expensively wrapped box too.
