--oh, shoot. Just how do I work this contraption? I knew I should've asked for specific directions... Is it a phone? Or... something... huh?

[ The feed opens up to one confused looking Avatar with a hand paused mid-scratch at the side of her head. Blink blink. She straightens and attempts to clear her throat a bit, but even doing that does nothing to remove the slightly confused frown on her face. ]

So... Keeliai. [ how does i start conversation to people she isn't even sure she might be speaking to ] It's... a nice looking place, I guess. I have so many questions, but I think I should start off with...

What next? I mean, if anyone's got any helpful suggestions on how to deal with this place, I'd be all for it. Really!

[ Pause. ]

Uh-- oh, right! The name's Korra. It's nice to meet... whoever'll be answering this message. I hope. Ugh.

[ She's making a fool of herself, she knows it. ]

[She manages to keep herself from saying Mako's name any differently than her normal.]

Heh. I hope they do, too. In fact, Mako should be the one telling you all of this - he's your boyfriend, after all.

[ And Korra somehow manages to say that so easily, but her grin drops just a bit casually. Yup, everything is normal here! ]

[... For a second, she actually entertains the thought of just... leaving it at that. Letting Korra assume that's how it all ended. It's a vicious, petty thought and the intensity of it actually surprises her.

But... it wasn't Korra that Asami was angry at. Not really.]

Korra... about that. I...

[deep breath.]

Mako and I aren't together any more. We... we broke up.

[ Awkward silence for the next twenty mi-- no, seconds. Korra's really surprised at this, and... a bit worried. Well, more than a bit, but the worry, concern, and confusion show well in the frown on her face. ]

You... You did? W-Why? The two of you looked so perfect for each other, and... [ Ohhh no, Korra, don't strain your voice right now. ]

Did I... I don't really know what to say; I'm sorry, Asami...

No, it's-- it's all right. It turns out we weren't that perfect for each other after all.

[She bites her lip.]

[she really doesn't want to say this.]

[ ... oh spirits, all those words from just now. Friends? ]

[She shakes her head.]

Mako knew what he was doing and he chose to do it anyway. You... you didn't really know me then, you didn't have any reason to care about my feelings. He did. That's why I'm mad at him.

[She sort of... crosses her arms over her abdomen and curls her fingers in the fabric just above her hipbones. This conversation has started making her miserable and she doesn't want to look at Korra right this moment.]

Mako wasn't responsible for my happiness, Korra. No one is. I won't say it didn't hurt me, but I'll be okay. It's not the end of the world, right?

[Not like her mother being brutally murdered when she was a child or her dad turning out to be an Equalist or anything.]

[ Korra flinches at the action, despite not knowing the context. It all makes sense when Asami just... rationalizes it all out like that, but Korra's still unsatisfied - yet not. Korra looks off low to the side.

It's really hard to rationalize things for Korra sometimes. Instinct and impulse are her thing, but something like this? Hsha, no wonder she failed at things that mattered most.

... But that doesn't change that it did hurt. [ She tries to look up directly at Asami, but her expression is less fierce and determined but more... searching? ] And for that... it won't stop me for being sorry, but I still wanna try. Again, and differently this time.
