He knows that this is a city on the back of a turtle—which sounds vaguely like something out of one of the books on surface-dweller mythology he had read once—but why he had been chosen and how cut off his final memories were before arriving here was still a mystery.]

It is said that to better understand your surroundings you must look at it with many eyes. [He is formal, but genial. He does not wish to start a confrontation on his first day.] I am known as Aqualad. It is a very…unique situation in which I find myself. Where we are and how we may have come to be here has been explained to me, but I would greatly appreciate any further information that those who come before me are willing to provide. The frequency of arrivals, whether others have managed to leave before, and general disposition of the native inhabitants would be very helpful. Those I have met so far have been...amicable, I can say.

[If none respond, he will have to seek a less direct route of coming by the information. He bows his head slightly, but visibly.] Thank you for your time.

[Nothing less than he expected of Robin, considering that he was far more familiar with their surroundings than Kaldur. He smiles back softly in return, but it is not a happy smile.]

It went...better than perhaps it could have gone...even if the Aquaman here is not the one from our world. The version of me that lives in theirs must be very different.

[There's a version of Kaldur in the other world? He'd been led to believe... Anyway.]

The Batman here, he's not from our world either. From what I can tell, their world is pretty different. And there's often time disparities.

It is all right, Robin. We knew that it was possible after Superboy's meeting with the beings of New Genesis. Perhaps we should have expanded our possibilities, but it is not something we could have anticipated.

[Kaldur firmly blames himself for that.] From what I have been told by Aquaman, the original Aqualad in his world was my friend Garth--who is years my senior there. Also it appears that my appearance is...confusing to them. [He absently reaches up to touch his hair because it was something Arthur commented on.]

To be fair, this is something straight out of a sci-fi novel. I even spoke with myself at one point.

Batman told me that another person had been Aqualad, someone I didn't know.

[Thoughfully:] How different is your appearance?

[If there is any blaming occurring on this team, then it is more than likely these two who would be doing it. But Robin is right that this level of difference is not what they would have even thought to have expected.]

It is likely he is also of the world that Garth is Aqualad. It could have very well have been he who became my king's protege instead of I even in our world. He made a different choice. [And they had never considered if they should have done otherwise.] As for my...looks, my Atlantean features were more confusing to him. It is not something that this...Jackson normally has. And he thought my hair color to be manufactured.

I see. So it's one of those little choices that made a big difference.

Still, if he only looks like you, how can anyone be sure it is you? His name isn't even the same. Maybe it's just a weird coincidence.

As far as I know, the age difference is great enough that we would not be peers in that world. I was informed by the Aquaman of that world that his Atlantean name was indeed Kaldur'ahm, like my own. Only he was raised on land, whereas I have always been raised in Atlantis.

This probably isn't the most comforting thing to say, but don't worry too much about it. It just... takes a little time to get used to everything.
