Where I'm from, magical talent runs in families, but anyone can learn the basics. It's more like... if your parents are both big, strong people, you'll probably be stronger than normal, but you still have to learn how to pick up a sword and use it. And even someone who isn't that strong can learn how to use a sword, they just have to work harder to develop the strength and coordination needed.

Magic is a set of natural phenomena related to energy flows on the astral plane. At least where I come from. If the scholars in your world haven't figured even that much out, no wonder you have such a low opinion of it. It's like showing one of these consoles to a five year old and expecting them to learn more than 'push the buttons to talk to people'.

[Not that Zel has the background to understand the consoles either, thanks to a tech level that's 4-5 centuries behind computers.]

If you're not going to be helpful, go find something more productive to do with your time. Like watching paint dry.

Energy flows. That's the point behind it. Transdimensional energy's a proven science -- look at what we've got going on here with a dozen people from a dozen Earths. Toss in an astral plane and --[A sudden clap of his hands.] -- boom. Magic becomes science. Don't get your panties in a knot just because you're from a place that hasn't made that connection.

If it bothers you that much, then you come by and prove to me that this magic of yours isn't some whack hookey-pookey.
