I'm sure everyone's had their fair share of time trying to figure out precisely what this place is and how you got here, but undoubtedly we've all heard the suggestion that this is, in one way or another, the afterlife. Not an idea I'm entirely fond of, but without any evidence otherwise, I'm forced to consider it a possibility. [very grudgingly, if his tone is anything to go by.]

So - a question. How many of you actually remember dying before your arrival here? A simple yes or no is enough, unless you had a particularly interesting death, in which case feel free to elaborate.

Sometimes they'd pretend to feel the same of everyone else.

Of course they'd try that, impossible as it is. That's gods for you.

So, you're just a very lucky - or very unlucky - chosen one to have to deal with a pantheon thought long dead? I don't really envy you.

Not exactly chosen and definitely not the only one.

Fated into it?

Fated's one word for it. Born into it is also applicable.

Same general idea. Fate enjoys damning people from birth.

Or their birth can cause that fate. I've seen that happen too.

In my experience, they tend to be one and the same. You're born fated or you're fated from birth. It isn't particularly pleasant either way.

I think there's still a nuanced difference between them. But no, it's never the glorious thing it's always made out to be.

Especially not when it comes to children. Nine times out of ten they're fated to die, anyway - though I assume that isn't the case for you.

Not to my knowledge, but that could change any time. Kids like me tend to have a high mortality rate. But it sounds like you've got some experience along the same lines.

I've had a lot of time to observe, if not participate directly.

But not with Greek gods.

I've observed a lot in general. These sorts of things tend to follow patterns regardless of the culture, the god, or the personality.

Only the Greeks exist in my world. Romans, too, I guess, though they're really the same entities. But it's a bit of a historical trend overall, I suppose.

Arrogance and the tendency to put all their eggs in one pitiful basket. Yes ... that follows nearly every pantheon.

Some of them do have a tendency to think they know best, even if they're proven wrong sometimes.

Athena is usually right, about most things.

I doubt that exempts her from thinking she knows best when that's not even close to the case.

[huff puff. that sure is a little bit of annoyance on her face]

She's the goddess of wisdom. She's a lot smarter than most of the other gods. She's -- she's not always right - [gods does that hurt to say, but she'll never agree with her mother's views on Percy] - but she acknowledges when she's wrong, and she usually does know the best course of action.

Wisdom can be a tricky subject - debatable, at best, about what precisely one knows that implies being wise.

But as I've had little experience in speaking to gods personally, I suppose I'll have to take your word for it.
