[Shelby's pretty much gotten the hang of this communication thing. She watched carefully when that kedan had shown her what to do, and she's been watching Garrett from the background. Whose terminal she is using now. She's just not the best at communicating or people skills, so she pretty much just stares at the screen for a few minutes, as if she's unsure of what to do or say now that she's set it up. Enjoy having someone stare intently at you, everyone, and be glad that it's not in person ~~for now~~.

After another moment, she finally speaks. Her voice is soft and low.] My name is Shelby Rook. I'm looking for a dragon. He's about the size of a pony, dark red in color, breathes fire. I have found the other person the dragon was with, so I can only assume he might be here as well. He answers to Bubbles. [A pause, and then a slight smile.] Try to not run from him; he is still a deadly predator, regardless of size. [And it'd suck if people started going after her dragon for such a silly thing like him eating them or something.]

[She leans back somewhat, head tilting.] I have been told we are to work here. I... have a varying set of skills, including some medical training. [And other things. You want a bitch killed? She'll kill a bitch. She likes killing bitches.] Thank you.

[ugh FINALLY someone who has heard of dragons

Temeraire has hitherto been reluctant about showing his face on the network, but since this lady has already mentioned she is aware of them and doesn't seem particularly hostile about them, he decides it may be safe to do so.]

I have not seen any other dragons here, but if he has lost you, I will be certain to look for him. Pray tell, what breed of dragon is he?

[Garrett had told her that there was a real dragon here, but she hasn't really been sure how to respond.

And he's talking to her. For someone who usually doesn't react too emotionally, her eyes widen in delight.]

I... would appreciate this very much. [Talking to her, this is the best.] He is a pygmy, a lesser dragon that arose when the true dragons fell.

[Temeraire settles back on his haunches, clearly more at ease when someone is looking at him admiringly.]

He does sound quite small for a dragon, if he is full-grown. But whatever do you mean by fell?

[She'd chinhands if that was a thing she did.]

He's about normal sized for a pygmy, from what I've gathered. [A frown.] A couple hundred years ago, the dragons disappeared from the world. We've been led to believe that they have died.

[His excitement fades quickly at her words. Another world where dragons are only a memory. A year before, the thought of all the dragons in the world disappearing would have been incomprehensible to him. Now he only thinks of the barrow-mounds in Dover, and is silent for a while.]

I think you would have known if they had died, unless your dragons were not much bigger than your pygmies. [His voice is a great deal quieter than it was before.] They must have died somewhere, and the bodies would have been difficult to miss.

It was long before I was born, and the world was a little different. Although there are reports written of corpses and how they were scavenged, it's more like they simply... vanished. [Her frown deepens. She wishes that she could give more information on the topic, but the disappearance of dragons and magic has long been an issue in her world.] The most that has been gathered is that they went north, to the frozen wastelands of their mother, the Dragon Goddess.

Well, they cannot simply have turned into nothing; perhaps they are hiding? --Oh, that is a great deal different from my world, then; I have certainly never heard of a dragon who is everyone's mother. [He leans forward a little.] Is she truly a goddess?

That's what we have been led to believe, that she was the first to give birth to dragons. [There's a slight smile that twitches at her lips.] I would consider the mother of the first dragons to be a goddess, wouldn't you?

Oh, but is she not a dragon herself? [He tilts his head slightly.] Who gave birth to her, then, if not another dragon?

I believe that is the very nature of the gods to be able to change their shape, but she is most commonly referred to as a great white dragon. [:|a Good question.] Are there beings greater than gods?

[oh

a white dragon. :|]

That I do not know, having never met a god. My captain says there is only one god, but I do not much see the point of discounting all the others once one has allowed for the existence of one.

What would a true dragon have need of your shoes? [He's being irrational. Like a girl.]

Mine is not to reason why when it comes to dragons.

[Just staring at him. You are wrong, Garrett. The most wrong.] He will not eat your shoes. They will be fine. [Like dealing with a child...]

What if he does?? [Garrett is not under any illusions. If the dragon wants his shoes, he doesn't actually have a threat to deliver]

Then you will need to find another pair before you hurt your feet, princess. [Like she's going to be able to stop a dragon even if she wanted to. Which she doesn't.]

Whyever on earth would I want to eat your shoes, when there are a great many other things to eat in the city which are not difficult to chew, and probably bad-smelling besides?

Well, then, it is very silly of you to assume that all dragons are the same as yours, especially when it is likely your fault that he is as ill-taught as you say he is. I am sure if he had received a proper education, instead of vague threats, he would not be eating your shoes at all.

[Garrett chokes] My fault? He's not even my dragon! A mad wizard set him to keep me locked up in a tower, and ever since I got out of the tower, he has been hounding me incessantly. He kept me locked in a cave for a month!
