Until I've got a better idea how these people treat prisoners, yeah, that's how I wanna do it. [Ah, Dean. Keeping his nose clean for the most practical of reasons. Sort of.]
I did some reading and it looks like the Emperor lets people ask her for something every now and then. Might as well ask if we can use the library before we bust in.
[Cas tilts his head a bit, because he kind of has to agree, but-] It's a reasonable precaution. She doesn't know my loyalties and wants to protect her people.
I don't know. She might consider me too dangerous to leave unhindered. [Maybe she'll lift whatever seal she's put on him once things get hairy, who knows?] Either way, it doesn't matter. Whatever she is, she has the power of a demigod at the very least. She's to be treated with caution.
Caution's one way of putting it. I dunno, man, something's rotten here. Locals can't tell me anything or if they can it's meaningless. So I guess we start at the library and, hey, they say servants hear shit, right? And that palace has to be full of 'em. Maybe some of them'll be willing to tell us more about her.
Like what we got brought here for, for one thing. Or some actual useful history about this place. Y'know, I checked out some books a while back and you'd think nothing interesting ever happens here. The closest they have to a grudge is a bean seller who got mad at a fruit seller and they threw their goods at each other for a week! What the hell!
You think she'd answer? Her people sure as shit don't say anything useful. [Dean shakes his head.] You weren't here when this thing's shell cracked. There were a lot of people who could've helped but they wouldn't let us. Hell, they made it sound like if we tried, we were in deep shit.
Yeah, again, Cas, there's the rumors about us helping. Kinda hard for us to do that if they keep us out of anything useful. The way I see it, we're just getting in their way, so why not let us all go home?
Of course it's a matter of-- [Wait what] What, you think there's a gate or something, and it's closed? You can check in but you can never check out? [Don't quote Hotel California at Cas, Dean, there's no point to it.]
I can't feel anything beyond the world-turtle, Dean. It could just be my limitations...or we could exist inside of a vacuum. A dimensional bubble, like the artificial realm of a god.
[no dean does not like that] Well, shit. [That is bad and unpleasant news that he didn't want. Cas, why you gotta do that?] Guess we better hope we can find something about a gate, then. More important, guess we need to figure out how to open it when we do.
The Emperor may not even be a native of this world. [Cas shakes his head.] It's unlikely she'll give us much time, or much information. We should be careful what we ask. [You know how it is with these deity types, man; sometimes it all depends on how you phrase the question.]
