002 Audio - The One Where Mike Tries To Barter

So...okay. Here's the thing. I can live frugal. I'm good at living frugal. There are fewer people out there who can dumpster dive as efficiently as I can. Trust me, my stone soup? Is amazing. I can make a Reclaimed Tuna Casserole Surprise that will knock your socks off.

As awesome as I am, even I can't make something from literally nothing, which is kind of what I've got at the moment. I say kind of because I have a whole bunch of little pots of home-made Floating Fruit preserves, jams, and jellies, and now that I'm officially out of money, I'm looking to trade them for...anything edible that isn't floating fruit. I've had my fill, thanks.

So, anyone out there interesting in jam for say...chocolate?
Or jam for bread?
Or jam for...seriously, anything.

[She counters it with a “Whaaat?” look.]

Every one I’ve ever seen is. [She points at him to preemptively dismiss what she thought he would say.] Tu Vishan doesn’t count.

So how did you sneak up on me like that anyway? [If there was one thing she’s not too big a fan of, it’s being snuck up on.] Spirit speed or not, you were pretty quiet.

There is nothing in her repertoire of personal experience to prepare her for the extreme, and incredibly outlandish, possibility that was just thrown at her. She opens her mouth before closing it again and simply inclines her head with an I can’t believe you just said that. look before she says:

“I can’t believe you just said that.”

Never would she have ever thought of it. Was Meelo going to be like this when he got older? Yes. Most likely. Oh god. “Practice?” she asks before doing as he asked and observed, with rapidly growing interest at his sudden acrobatic prowess. “You learned that?” She wanted to ask why he had his arm like that, but she thought it would be best to wait.

Having waited long enough she abruptly asked “What’s up with your arm? I know you’re not holding your shell up. …Are you?” Maybe turtle spirits needed to hold up their shells? What an odd thought. But then again, today had been nothing but odd thoughts.

“Nope, didn’t have a clue. In fact you’re the first actual turtle I’ve seen. I mean turtle ducks are one thing, but a turtle-turtle? Wow.” Leaning over to give an almost intrusive inspection of his arm, Korra studies it and the broken stitches with scrutiny before she says “Yup, someone tagged you good. Give me a sec, and I’ll have patched up in no time.”

Without even standing up she moves her arms through the air gracefully and calmly. A harpist would be scornfully jealous. As she does so water from a canal out past the alley speedily makes its way to her and with a peaceful turn of both her wrists the water melds into a glowing ball.

“Now this might feel good, so don’t fall asleep.” She warned with a smile as she lightly pushed her arms forward causing the water to completely envelop the wound, washing away the pain and accelerating the body’s healing process. “So who nicked you? She asked conversationally as she waterbended, simply because where she’s from it’s no big deal. Ever. And nicked so weak a description for the cut.

Korra can’t help but give a small smile and laugh silently as she heals his damaged arm. From his reaction alone she knew this was his first time experiencing the healing properties of waterbending, it usually was from people who never had to be treated before. However, she did warn him and to prevent him from falling asleep she flicks her index finger and a few droplets flew from the ball towards his face to splash him awake.

“Hey, what did I tell you?” she chided playfully. “So who injured you?” she repeated as she flexed her fingers slowly inwards then outwards, forcing the water to seep throughout the wound and cleanse any possible infections while encouraging the body to renew itself.

“A katana?” she frowns slightly as she tries to picture who ambushes anyone with a katana anymore. It’s been decades. Or at least, it’s been decades on her world. “What kind of training could be that hazardous?” That’s why it’s called training, in safe environment, with protection and tap outs. But tap outs where meant to be picked on afterwards.

Those tendons become easily mended thanks to her learning the ins and outs of healing from Katara, best there is. Not much longer before his arm would be good as new. “Was this training after you got trapped here or back in your Spirit World?” Yes, she’s still completely convinced he’s from entirely different plane of existence.

The foot?” All she can see in her head is a giant foot randomly showing up in front of some man sized turtles. When he shrugs her arms move simultaneously with the slight adjustment. “Easy. You’re almost done.” A novice healer might have had their concentration broken and wound up with a puddle on the floor, but thankfully that’s not the case here. With a few more delicate finger movements she finishes her healing and pulls the water away to reveal a very healthy green arm. “Much better.”

By moving her arms languidly she holds the ball of water in front of them, no longer glowing, and in the center is a mixture of mostly blood with a little dirt. Looking almost as if it was encased in the water for display instead of being diluted.

“So that’s what happens when a foot attacks you with a katana, huh?” her tone is half joking. Keeping it aloft simply holding her hands still, she peers at it. “It was pretty deep too. You should stick to playing hero when you’re not injured.” Of course if it was the other way around, she probably would have done the same thing.

Folding her arms over chest, Korra nodded approvingly at her handiwork as Mike felt where the wound used to be. First turtle smile she's ever seen and Korra can't help but smile back. "Glad I could help. It's not every day I get to sharpen my healing techniques, so if you ever get busted up again I can totally help with that."

What is it with ninja turtles meeting helpful girls anyway?

“Probably a good idea. I mean it’s good to heal once in a while, but I think I’d get pretty tired of seeing you cut up a lot. No offense.” She added the last part with a light chuckle. However, it was cut short when there was some commotion just outside the alley. Water flying out of the canal randomly was apparently noticed by some of the passing kedan.

“Uh oh.” She said quietly as she looked to Mike. Korra didn’t mind the disapproving looks and mutters the kedan had given her, but she knew he wasn’t fond of being seen.
