002 Audio - The One Where Mike Tries To Barter

So...okay. Here's the thing. I can live frugal. I'm good at living frugal. There are fewer people out there who can dumpster dive as efficiently as I can. Trust me, my stone soup? Is amazing. I can make a Reclaimed Tuna Casserole Surprise that will knock your socks off.

As awesome as I am, even I can't make something from literally nothing, which is kind of what I've got at the moment. I say kind of because I have a whole bunch of little pots of home-made Floating Fruit preserves, jams, and jellies, and now that I'm officially out of money, I'm looking to trade them for...anything edible that isn't floating fruit. I've had my fill, thanks.

So, anyone out there interesting in jam for say...chocolate?
Or jam for bread?
Or jam for...seriously, anything.

[Arthur can sympathize with the plight of the hungry. It doesn't feel like so long ago that his own people were refugees taking shelter in ruins underwater, with all the woes that come from your city being destroyed again. Here, he's lucky that he and his family can live off the sea, and he can make sure they're fed much more easily since practically none of the rationed food items are part of a traditional Atlantean diet anyway.]

I have about a week's worth of the typical rations and plenty of fish I wouldn't mind trading.

However much you feel is fair. I've had things fairly easy as far as the rationing goes, I mostly live off the sea.

this is whole fruit jam, even in sticks it'd go for maybe three bucks a jar? maybe five if we're thinking midtown. week's worth of groceries is thirty-five? okay...

Okay, how about seven pots of jam?

[Huh. He is so not used to grocery prices and things like that; necessities like food and shelter are provided in Atlantis and currency and trading are mostly used to get luxury type things and extras.]

Five sounds perfectly fair, I'm not sure I need that much sugar around the house. [He chuckles a little.]

That’s a lot of jam! Sure, I’ve got half a loaf of bread I can spare along with a couple of veggies and some butter. Oh, and if you drink coffee, you can have all of mine. I might be able to turn that jam into quite a tasty treat.

[She looks at her speakers dubiously.] Who is this anyway?

[There's a pause when Mike realizes exactly how stupid that sounded. The kind of pause where you just KNOW the person on the other end of the call is doing that whole full-face Ugh, I'm SUCH an idiot!]

I'm Mike. And I would totally appreciate it, and take it as a token of your superior will, if you'd just up and forget the first thing I said.

Sea prunes aren't affected by the rationing as other goods are. I also have a surplus of rations that exceed my own needs.
