[ It's a little too late to adhere to that whole non-interference clause of the Prime Directive, being the subject of an alien-napping and all, so here is Spock in all his pointy-eared glory. Looking as straight-faced as possible. Unlike Kirk, he didn't part from their meeting and then drink himself under a table, he stayed up all night watching network conversations and Sciencing. It would be illogical to... wallow, and he refuses to acknowledge that he even has the urge. ] ... Fascinating.

In addition, any information on the turtle itself would be appreciated; the scans I have taken of the creature only tell me so much, and the indigenous people seem... disinclined to reply to my queries.

I...yeah, I have. A few times, actually. Something about it's just...relaxing.

[He's having a hard time describing how it works, really. Because stuff like that is definitely not normal where he comes from, and it's definitely something very specific to that part of the turtle. Which makes him think the turtle itself is involved, but he doesn't know how or why and it bugs him.]

I think someone described it as temporarily finding "inner peace," which sounds about right.

... Fascinating. [ Oh yeah, he's definitely going to go snoop up there soon. ] The creature is aware of our presence, is it not? [ He called it "protective," after all. ]

Pretty sure it is, yeah. It's shown signs of awareness in the past. Supposedly it's the one that put up a barrier over the city before diving underwater.

I'm not sure if that's entirely true, but the fact it waited until there was a barrier in place suggests some level of awareness. Possibly even consideration for all of us on the shell.

[Because if it ever got annoyed with them, drowning them all and washing away the entire city would be really easy for it to do.]

What manner of barrier was this?

I have no idea. Nothing like it existed anywhere back home.

[That he knew of. Then again, if it did, it would've been all over the news. Either because it was a scientific announcement for good, or a supervillain was gloating.]

Whatever it was, it was able to keep the water out, not to mention the uh...zombies. For a while, anyway.

[Yeah, your turtle experience just got weirder, pointy ears.]

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about it. And I actually saw them.

They also apparently broke all the usual "zombie" rules, and the only thing that killed them was sunlight. Which there wasn't a whole lot of until the turtle re-surfaced.

[The entire ordeal was easily in the running for the worst experience he's had on the turtle, and he's visibly disturbed just thinking about them. Which was saying something, considering the line of work he's in ~~not that he's sharing that information with Spock anytime soon~~.]

It sucked.

Then the two occurrences were linked? [ Because it sure sounds convenient for the zombies that the turtle went underwater at all, if that was not its usual habit. ]

Yeah. For a while it wasn't an issue, since they couldn't break through the barrier to get inside. But eventually some of them did, and the rest followed.

They all died off once the turtle brought us back up to the surface, though. Apparently they didn't handle sunlight well.
