[ It's a little too late to adhere to that whole non-interference clause of the Prime Directive, being the subject of an alien-napping and all, so here is Spock in all his pointy-eared glory. Looking as straight-faced as possible. Unlike Kirk, he didn't part from their meeting and then drink himself under a table, he stayed up all night watching network conversations and Sciencing. It would be illogical to... wallow, and he refuses to acknowledge that he even has the urge. ] ... Fascinating.
[ For such ancient technology, this thing appears remarkably serviceable. ] Greetings. I am Commander Spock, of the United Federation of Planets. If I understand correctly, then you are my fellow... detainees. [ There, that's politic enough. ] I would like to request information on what is being done with the crashed satellite debris. In return, I may be of some assistance in constructing something useful from it, as I am familiar with this level of technology.
In addition, any information on the turtle itself would be appreciated; the scans I have taken of the creature only tell me so much, and the indigenous people seem... disinclined to reply to my queries.
[ Aaaand he'll just give a sharp nod and the Vulcan Salute on his way out. ]

[ He's joking. Probably. ]

No.
[Quietly,]
I'm being a friend.

He almost calls him "Jim" again, but decides against it at the last second. ]
Sir, I find science to be enjoyable. That is why I chose to pursue a career in it. [ Because lbr he had the grades to find a position literally anywhere. ]

You're missing the point.
[He drags his hands through his hair, and he looks... older than his years, in that moment. It's the ache behind his eyes, the tightness at the corners of his mouth with its downturned edges.
I'm afraid, Spock. Help me not be.]
What we do, with the Federation. We both do it because we love it, because it's what we're meant for. But it's not the only thing out there, Spock.
[He's not maudlin, per se, but being confronted with his own mortality is one of those things that's made him realize just how much he was leaving undone. Well. That version of him.
He was going to change it, change everything. But that doesn't mean he doesn't remember watching himself die.]

He doesn't know what to do with that.
He tries not to notice the lines in Jim's face, the tiredness there, but he has always been observant and he can't not. So he... acquiesces. Just slightly. And makes no overt promises. ]
... What would you suggest?
[ On Vulcan, "free time" is spent in study or meditation. One may spend hours obligated to no one else on art, or maintaining adequate physical condition. Games from Vulcan are strategic things designed to hone skills, and most humans he has met have expressed distaste for them. They are too much "like homework." ]

[Wait. His expression shifts into a bit of a grimace.]
Not for strength training, or cold endurance or-- you know. Not work. Play.
video --> encrypted 90%
There is slight trepidation in that frown. Hidden. Somewhere. There is no swimming on Vulcan. Water is conserved on the massive desert stretches where most of their cities lie, as it a precious resource, even in their age of technological wonder. ]
... I have not.

Good. We're gonna do that. Beach party. Pencil it in, Mr. Spock.
video --> encrypted 90%
I do not "party," Captain.
video --> encrypted 90%
First time for everything.
[You called me Jim.]
Come on! Where's your sense of adventure? 'To boldly go'? Isn't that what this is all about? We're on an alien planet, Spock! Lighten up!

video --> encrypted 90%
No, you're attempting to dissect this alien planet. Exploring is supposed to be [ding ding ding! that word again] fun.
video --> encrypted 90%
I find this idea more and more troubling as time passes.
video --> encrypted 90%
[SO PERFECTLY CHEERFUL OVER THIS.]

[There's a pause. Jim smiles, tilts his head down.]
I'm glad you're here.
video --> encrypted 90%
Wait, Spock can do this. Time has passed, things have happened, he thinks he finally knows the appropriate response: ]
I am glad for your presence, as well.
[ There. (And he really, really means it.) ]
video --> encrypted 90%
Not that he can actually... voice that sentiment. Not when there's a first officer to be trolled.]
So. Proper human bathing attire...
video --> encrypted 90%
There is proper attire. [ can it even be considered a question when it's delivered that deadpan? ]
video --> encrypted 90%
But, uh. Yeah. You and me, we should. Go shopping maybe. Tomorrow. Is tomorrow good for you, because tomorrow's good for me.
video --> encrypted 90%
I-- as of yet have no plans. [ he could not sound more suspicious if he tried ]
