[Katniss is looking as cheerful as ever. Which is to say, not at all.]

Even if all these investigations find a way to fix the turtle, what's going to be done about the game? The kedan are coming to us for food, and what you can call a forest has basically been stripped clean. Unless we're just all living off vegetables until the next few breeding seasons have passed.

What's wrong with living off vegetables? I don't eat meat, and it works well for me. [Vegetarians represent, yo.]

You don't eat meat? [This is a totally foreign concept to Katniss] Is hunting illegal where you are? Or farming?

No. But a lot of people where I'm from choose to not eat meat willingly. It's a lifestyle choice. [What, why would hunting or farming be illegal?] As long as you can supplement what you're missing, you can live off of plants.

[Katniss' jaw clenches a little. She looks away from the screen] Where I'm from, choice wasn't a part of it. And we might not have that option here, either.

I'm sorry. [Like really, she is.] And I know there won't be a lot of choice, but there's definitely a way to survive off of just plants.

If there's enough. I haven't been taking as much from the garden as I need to live, because I can get my food from other sources. What happens when those sources dry up? For everyone?

[A frown.] I think you already know the answer to what happens when it dries up, but I really don't think we're going to just let it happen without a fight.

How do you fight starvation?

I don't know. [She's never had to starve before.]

[There's a pause, because Katniss honestly hadn't expected that response.] That's...honest.

[She looks confused.] Was I supposed to lie?

[A shrug. She's starting to get tired, the effort of talking to so many people grating on her] Most people would rather make something up than admit they don't know what they're talking about.
