Guys, we need a school.

And not JUST because I've been stuck in Turtle-opolis for almost six months and I'm seriously behind in my studies. [She cycles through six different half-grumpy, half teasing faces before she assumes a more serious face.] I know people have been offering to teach self defense and magic and stuff like that, but it's not -- look, it's what we need to be doing.

Educating ourselves is how we prepare for stuff like -- you know, the thing that we have to prepare for.

Obviously, I'd mostly just be a student. I think most of the people who can teach valuable skills already are, but they could afford to be more coordinated. That means we need a Headmaster. Any volunteers?

[She clears her throat and steps back from the camera, revealing half her apartment to be covered with notes about something -- presumably this project.] Oh, yeah, I have a preliminary curriculum, lemme know what you think.

Lessee, we got... Self Defense, English, Kedan Language and Culture, Computer Science, Magic, Physics and how not to introduce stupid invasive furballs into the ecosystem.

Ahem. I mean Newcomer Orientation. Obviously there's not enough of us to really do levels or whatever, but come on. Let's get on it!

Agreed, though I'm not sure how to manage that, given that all tech except the network seems to be tied up with the turtle.

Well, no. But we gotta have something that can still work with no powers and no network.

Maybe a courier system of some kind? But people can only move as fast as their legs can take them, and they can't always be trusted with sensitive information.

Yeah, at least the birds wouldn't spy on us.

Um, maybe the kids could do it, though? We'll know who we can trust from the school, and they shouldn't be on the frontlines anyway.

I'm not sure I want to touch the ethical implications of using children, especially in what would probably be an emergency situation.

They're gonna be in the emergency situation anyway. They were called here to fight the same as us.

That's what establishing safe houses and shelters is for - getting the most vulnerable out of harm's way.

And just because we're supposedly all brought here to fight, doesn't mean we're all qualified to do so. I question the ethics of anyone willing to use children in a war.

[Ava folds her arms, considering.] Winning the war while holding onto your ethics could be impossible. [She's kind of young herself to be expressing that kind of sentiment, honestly.] I think we should give them a choice. Some of the kids here are more mature than you'd think.

War is a terrible thing, and forces us to make a lot of hard decisions - but we need to be careful not to lose our way, too. It's the difference between us, and what we're fighting.

It's not. [She sounds pretty solid about that point.] It's the difference between us and what we're afraid of becoming.

[Shepard looks off for a moment, lost in a distressing memory.] Sometimes they're the same thing.
