So, who all here is into racing?

[simple, direct, to the point. she's smiling as she says it, though. It's about equal parts mischievous and competitive.]

Oh! And for anyone working on or interested in Mr. Kent's newspaper, I'm going to be writing a section on automotives. If anyone has any information on any of the vehicles or mechanics here, I'd love to talk shop. Thanks.

[She gives the camera a little wave, and disconnects.]

Thank you. I'm not exactly used to things like this so-- it's definitely a new experience.

You weren't hurt during the fighting, were you?

[He finishes his mouthful and actually blows on the remainder of the cookie to try and cool it down before shoving it into his mouth. He has to pause when she talks though.]

You heard about that?

I-- heard about what?

[No, she didn't hear anything, but she's definitely giving him a look of concern now.]

[He gives a small shrug, frowning a little. He's glad that Steph hasn't told anyone about what had actually happened.]

I got some shrapnel all up in my leg. [He points down where it had been.] It's no big deal, I've had way worse before.

Tommy! Don't just say it's no big deal! Are you all right? My friend Korra, she's a healer, you should have her look at it.

[omg babby no. she looks genuinely distressed at the fact he's been hurt okay]

[he's not used to being fussed over. He sort of stares at her for a moment.]

--Yeah, I'm fine. My friends Steph took the shrapnel out and my brother healed me. I sure wouldn't be standing if they hadn't.

[He's not going to mention the emotional trauma it dredged up, nope.]

Good. Don't scare me like that.

[She leans back against the countertop, fingers curling under the edges.]

I'm glad you're all right, and that there were people there to look out for you.

[he finishes the half of the cookie he is holding on and nods.]

You didn't get involved, did you?

[is that a hint of worry?]

I did. During the riots.

[She notes his concern and reaches out to touch his arm briefly, a little gesture of comfort.]

It's all right, I've had a lot of experience with this sort of thing.

[He raises an eyebrow.]

What, Republic City not a safe place or something?

Not... as much as you might expect. We had a war recently.

[She sort of offers a helpless little smile. Sure, everything worked out for the best, but-- it was still hard on people.]

[He frowns and goes to stand next to her, turning so that he's leaning back on the counter too, their shoulders brushing against each other.]

Wars suck. I've been through a few. [Civil wars, secret invasions, sieges on the Earth? You name it.]

They're not my favourite thing, that's for certain.

[She bumps shoulders back.]

Have you ever had to fight someone you love?

[Tommy glances up at her.]

Nah. Not yet, anyway. [he frowns.]

Two of my teammate switched sides once, but. Other than that.

[Tommy watches her carefully, and then bumps his shoulder up against hers again.]

It all worked out all right. He's in prison now. Where he belongs.

[She sounds resolved about it, at least.]

Anyway, I'm sorry-- I didn't drag you all this way to have you listen to my little family drama. You wanted to know something that's better than winning, right?

[He gives a brief nod, glad the subject changes, and swivels behind her to grab another cookie.]

--So it ain't your baking? [He grins.]

Well... actually...

[She slides away from him and to the fridge, which she cracks open.

There may actually be dozens of batches of cookies in neat little bags.]

There was a lot of damage to the housing complexes in the Metal Sector during the riots... I thought maybe it might be nice to do something for the kedan there. It would be too easy for them to hate us, I mean... we've disrupted their entire way of life by being here, so... maybe...

[... she feels really silly right now and just sort of trails off.]

[He leans up and peers into the fridge when she opens it, blinking a little. God she reminds him of Kate. The hair, the attitude, and even the charity work. It's the first time he's really properly missed her.

He pushes off the counter and goes over to get a better look.]

That's a pretty awesome idea. I mean, the kedan are as much to blame for the riots as we are for the damage, but. [he trails off too, glancing at her.] I mean, it would suck if the civilians stopped actually letting us buy stuff and junk.

[winning is still better. and damn, he was expecting sex.]

[She bites her lip.]

Will you help me deliver it?

[helping people is always better than winning, Tommy. Gosh.]

Yeah, of course. I need to stretch my legs anyway.

[Not better than sex.]

[Awwh, that earns him a kiss on the cheek.]
