I don't mind painting, but picking colors is probably a bad idea.

I'm sure that you are skilled enough to pick up a new hobby. Taste and symmetry play a decent part, and your taste doesn't seem to lack anything.

[His personal opinion, of course, but he's not that oblivious to aesthetics. Tony senses that the next part is some sort of joke, but he's failing to catch what it's about. He gives Shockwave a quizzical smile. It always feels like there are things left unsaid, but that line is practically resonating with it.]

[Tony is content with making jokes and letting them keep theirs. Shockwave and Orion are letting him poke at their strange alien energy so he really can't complain too much. Although he might start poking around himself once he gets more of an idea of how the energon works.]

( that gets a laugh and a wide smile - shockwave appreciates tony's ability to crack jokes instead of prying too much. there are some things that they simply can't discuss, and so long as he can accept the boundaries they've set forth then they'll have no trouble at all. )

You mean Neocybex? Which reminds me - we should start up proper lessons sometime in the near future. ( but a shake of shockwave's head. ) Energon is a valuable and dangerous substance. It's not so much a big secret as it is a desire for control over who knows it even exists here.

[Some things are meant to stay private. It's true that Tony tends to have a problem remembering where the line is and how to keep his hands off of other people's business, but that's because they tend to be things he feels obligated to take charge of. He doesn't go out intending to pry into personal history. At least at first. Luckily they just haven't run into a case where he felt responsible for her history.]

( because shockwave doesn't do anything by halves - if tony wants to learn neocybex he'll be learning the entire thing rather than the basics. still, it's nothing shockwave has ever taught, or any cybertronian for that matter. it's one of the things you automatically know when you come online. the primal vernacular, on the other hand... )

[The smile Tony gives Shockwave is like a child being offered a toy if he behaves. He's eager, but trying not to look too eager because that might be interpreted as offensive and therefore misbehaving.]

[Yeah, so much for trying not to sound too eager.]

( his excitement only causes shockwave to smile wider - pleased that he's excited and at the prospect of teaching someone again. it won't be the same as trying to ensure that the future generations of cybertronians won't make the same mistakes as the old, but it'll do for now. )

[He's teasing her, evidenced by the fact that he's grinning. Tony is genuinely eager to learn anything he can about Shockwave and Orion. Whatever culture they come from, clearly learning their language is the key to finding out more about them. It makes him even more eager to learn it if only to find out about their power research. And, really, he does like the pair.]

I'm certain we'll come up with something to keep you occupied.

( Perhaps one of the reasons Shockwave likes Tony so much is his boundless enthusiasm. It's familiar and refreshing at the same time - students like him were always Shockwave's favorites outside of the outliers. It made teaching a joy and nothing like the chore some of Shockwave's contemporaries considered it. )

[And for just a minute that comes out as suggestive as he might be thinking. But of course that's only Tony being a gratuitous flirt because the opportunity presented itself.]
