[Annabeth had every intention of making this as normal and casual as possible. But she was already vaguely grumpy (far from even okay yet, really), another friend is potentially gone, and she had to practically throw Percy into the living room to avoid using him as an extra cushion in front of the console. Not that any visual evidence is there, since she opts for audio. Still, her tone is abormally curt and flat and teetering on exhausted.]

So - I've been here over a year now, and I'm pretty sure the number of people who can say the same has dwindled. A lot. I'm just kind of wondering who else is... left. From the very start of this particular wave of the whole "Eshai summoning people" thing. [Wow ok sounding super annoyed at Eshai's general existence right now, too.] Gang wars, attempted executions, all that fun stuff. [y do u sound so blasé about all that.]

[There's a short stretch of silence, and her voice goes even more flat, a carefully constructed neutral.] And if - it's relevant, to people who knew her, I'm fairly certain Doctor Soranik Natu isn't... in Keeliai anymore. [since there's debate over what happens, exactly, to those who disappear, she can't really bring herself say 'went home'.] I had a meeting with her today, and she didn't show, nor was she at her suite. It's really unlike her. That kind of complete disappearance usually means one thing. [Which she's already implied and if you didn't pick up on that too bad!!!]

[And she's done. So uh AWKWARDLY AND ABRUPTLY ENDS THE FEED.]

That's like the complete opposite of anything worth apologizing over. I was just curious.

They really just loot your stuff if you leave? [rude.] What do they even do, resell it?

Unless someone gets there first, usually. They need to reuse the suites at least, but I have no idea what happens to belongings.

That probably means we're due for something else awful any moment now. [She is a beacon of optimism rn.] Not even necessarily related to our little malicious friend [because haha malicant geddit], since it took months for him to really show his presence here in the first place.

[Jaime hums thoughtfully, making a mental note to ask somebody if he can grab his girlfriend's stuff for her one of these days. Or something.]

That half-full glass of yours is just brimming with positivity, huh. [She has a point, though, so...] Though, the fact that it's that quiet is worrying me. We don't even know what's up next on the Big Evil Agenda.

[She makes a vaguely unhappy sort of sighing noise.] It's overflowing. Don't throw any ice in. [:T] It wants Asti, so another attempt on the turtle's life will probably come at some point. It manipulated its way into getting a foothold in Keeliai, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's still working the subtle method.

[He remembers the gangs and the human sacrifices all too well.]

I haven't heard a lot from the crazy Mally groupies lately, though. How much contact do you think those people actually have with it?

I doubt they'd be doing anything that draws overt attention to themselves, with the way we stomped on their efforts before. As for contact, I have no idea. If it's as powerful as we're assuming, it can definitely influence people, maybe even without too much actual contact. We curbed it, but a network as developed as that can't be crushed out entirely that quickly.

So, kinda like the cartel. But with more inconceivable evil.

Considering the amount of drug smuggling going on across the gangs and then some, yeah, that's probably not far off.

Awesome. [sigh.] It probably goes without saying that this is gonna be a really tough job, huh?

I'd ask which part of the job you mean, but all of it'll probably be tough.
