[When the feed turns on, both Jor-El and Shockwave are in view. Shockwave is smiling the same smile as always, bursting with the usual amount of energy. Jor-El’s expression is sedate.]

Hello Keeliai. I am Shockwave. Jor-El [A gesture to the man standing to Shockwave’s left] and I wish to announce the creation of Wayne Enterprise’s Science Division in the Metal Sector.

It has been in the process of being readied for some time [the equipment they felt needed wasn’t on the turtle; it took time to build the tools needed to build more advanced equipment] but now we feel it is sufficiently equipped to bring others on.

Everyone is welcome if you have even the slightest wish to help us, or help increase the level of technology in Keeliai as a whole. We’re currently looking into alternatives for the consoles - but there’s any number of projects.

[It’s a very large space they’ve set up in, with a very open floor space and high ceiling. Shockwave was insistent on the latter.]

While a background in or familiarity with the sciences or engineering would be preferable, it will not be necessary. We are willing to accommodate anyone willing to learn.

That’s all for now, but if there’s anyone with any questions - feel free to ask. Thank you for your time.

[And with another bright smile from Shockwave and a slight nod from Jor-El, the feed ends.

[ Orion switched to their private channel, and then to audio when it occurred to him Shockwave could read him like an open book. Emotions or not, Shocwave would have picked up on his own and zeroed on whatever unpleasant feeling he was surely radiating. ]

Working with a human like this without coming to me first. I made the ground rules absolutely clear.

( Shockwave's response is delayed, after making it clear to Jor-El that this was a conversation best had in private and shooing him away. )

With respect, you no longer carry the title of Prime - I am not bound by anything other than good will to inform you of what I wish to spend my free time doing.

( Even the chain of command would not apply, unaffiliated as Shockwave is. )

I won't endanger us through my work here in any way. That much should have been obvious.

( Sure, Shockwave had insisted upon the high ceiling and open space, but that had practical reasons as well. )

I am speaking with experience you do not have.

[ Orion snapped back. Experience was a kinder way of putting to words the guilt and distrust he felt for humans without intending insulting Shockwave's intelligence. ]

My abdication was my decision and it was not done lightly. Don't think I'm blowing hot air in an effort to relive that part of my life. I'm not throwing the chain of command at you; I'm only doing what I believe to be right but us and them. Throwing yourself into their lives is only going to do more harm than good it's always ends like that!

[ It was just an effort to upgrade their communications. But he knew Shockwave, and he knew it wouldn't just end there. ]

What you're doing is just a small step towards something that will get out of hand.

You're letting your experience blind you the fact that this is not Earth! ( It shouldn't be judged by the standards of a planet that had barely been walked on by the direct ancestors of humans, according to Shockwave. ) Humans are as much caught in this situation as we are, and there's nothing to be gained by ignoring that.

The way to help them is not to remove oneself completely - that solves nothing, and whether you like it or not, we will be drawn into this. Better to earn their trust any way we can so that when we can no longer hide they'll be more accepting of our reasons for doing so in the first place.

( Get out of hand. As if everything hasn't already reached that point in their own world - but that's not Shockwave's doing. )

I have it well in hand now, as does Jor-El. If, in the future, you have a complaint or a concern, you can voice it then.

Don't- [ The audio goes shrill and cuts off into static when Orion shouted with such fury that it had blew the speakers. There is a mechanical whine as it readjusts itself before Orion's voices comes through again. ] Use what happened on Earth against me when...when...

[ In a breathy voice Orion snarls out something he immediately regrets the exact moment he says it ]

When not to far from now it was your fault we were there in the first place!

[ Dead air follows as Orion goes into a silent panic over what he just accused Shockwave with, and over something that was arguably pointless. Before the mountain he made out of this molehill could get any bigger, Orion recomposed himself and returned to his neutral tone of voice. ]

The Tyrest Accord was put into motion for a reason, and I don't want to see anything come of this that could make things worse for us or them. But, I'll....talk to this Jor-El and support your efforts until further notice.

My fault? ( Shockwave's own answering tone is indignant and offended. But there it is. It's one thing to assume that Orion is keeping something from Shockwave, and another to know it for certain. ) I never spared the planet anything more than a second glace, how can it be my fault?

( An opening for Orion to explain himself - Shockwave isn't a fool. There's been a specific lack of mentioning of what became of Shockwave during the war, and the more Orion avoids the topic, the more suspicious Shockwave becomes. Not that it matters, Shockwave expects him to brush the topic aside. )

Tyrest? Nova's Chief Engineer? I didn't think he had it in him to be a politician, let alone drafting legislation. ( Just saying. There's a moment or two of silence as Shockwave attempts to reign in a legendary temper. And then, calmer: ) Thank you, Orion. You have my word that at any sign of abuse or danger, I'll cease.

( Dai Atlas' words have always hung heavy over Shockwave - now is no different. )
