Why a barbeque?

Ellie wished to roast things over a fire. A barbecue seemed a far less dangerous option, if she wished to participate. Additionally, neither of us have been to one and are curious.

I am quite capable of cooking meat for Ellie and vegetables for myself without the two mixing.

I didn't say you weren't. Just that the full-on traditional experience involves, you know. Hotdogs and marshmallows and stuff. All things you can't really eat.

[ That's not something he expects Jim to latch onto, falling to the wayside of wry humor in favor of an explanation behind a lock. ]

Bonded couples usually experience some discomfort with the presence of a new mind alongside their own. It is usually an irreversible process and grows easier depending on their compatibility. With T'Pring, the bond was weak but stable. I learned to appreciate the warmth of her presence although she remained far away but we were a poor match and I could not access her thoughts or emotions.
