[The feed turns on showing the disgruntled face of none other than Eridan Ampora. However, half his grey face is covered by a scarf pulled up to his nose, leaving only his glaring eyes and thick-rimmed glasses in view. Even his fins are covered by the fluffy blue-striped scarf. He's also got himself parked next to one of the fire fountains, clearly using it for what warmth he can garner for himself.]

This place abso-fuckin'-lutely sucks.

[He states it as if it's purely irrefutable fact. He lets out a shiver, his eyebrows furrowing a bit more.]

Who the bloody fuck said it could get so cold? Whose worthless idea was it? This place is supposed to be some bullshit reality between life an' death or what the bloody fuck ewer poppycock they're spewin' at us with the audacity to think we're willin' to beliewe a lick a it, and yet it has weather?

[He lets out a derisive snort, clearly being a bit more dramatic than what's truly necessary. But then again, this whole post is nothing if not unnecessary. He honestly just wants to complain, to allow his woes to be heard! Because they clearly need to be heard by everyone.]

I'm callin' complete bullshit, total and utter bee-fuckin'-ess. It makes no stinkin' sense why there's weather goin' on in such a fuckin' place as this, and so they really ought to do somethin' about the decline in temperature, because I'm sure I ain't just speakin' for myself when it comes to how much I ain't lookin' forward to freezin' my globes off.

[Spock you're gonna make him blush. Jim laughs a little and drags a hand through his hair. He's not embarrassed, per se. 'Weirdly delighted' might be a better term. His little Vulcan all grown up and making friends and-- really accurately describing him to people, apparently! Still, it gets a less teasing classification of smile.]

Well, I would't say one of the few. The Federation's about working alongside other races and cultures for the betterment of everyone, it's a pretty standard concept where I'm from.

[He can talk about how xenophobia's usually the product of either fear or ignorance another day, since. It's kind of a heated topic, and not usually one for kids. Ahem.]

[Would he be embarrassed if Eridan told him Spock's main descriptor for Kirk was his stunningly blue eyes more or less?]

Several years of diplomacy training'll do that to you, even if Jim doesn't personally really give a royal rat's rear end who's got a title or not. But Spock talked to this kid enough that he felt a recommendation was in order, so. He's sort of obliged to be a little more cognizant of social norms than usual.]

[Eridan watches how his body language changes from casual to something more refined. His eyebrow quirks with amusement, he certainly can get used to this treatment. He's long since deserved the royal treatment, too bad he was with nothing but disrespectful cretins without the sponges to understand the importance of the hemospectrum. He gives him an acknowledging nod to that salute.]

[Wow, this feels great! Feeling all important and stuff, this is seriously stuff he only fantasized about, doing diplomatic things with aliens, though trolls diplomacy is usually a knife in the back, but he's got no intention of doing that while they're being so helpful.]

I'll manage. It ain't like there's many of us left regardless--only a handful really. I appretiate the offer an' certainly will, Spock has done well to represent you all, and you're a token to your fleet as well. I may find some faith in your species yet.

[That really shouldn't get him in the feelings quite so badly, but it does. 'Not many of us left' hits a little too close to-- not home, but Vulcan at least. Which is important to Jim on account of it being important to one of his people. His brow furrows briefly, and yes, sympathy and concern are available wholesale. Kids never should have to talk so casually about the destruction of a species.]

I've always found having faith in individuals rather than a collective whole works pretty well. Humanity - any species - might let you down, [Or an institution. God knows he took his knocks, after Marcus.] but the people you trust and rely on have in most cases have earned that esteem, and would never betray it.

[Eridan would probably be less casual if it didn't happen a month ago and under different circumstances. Not that the circumstances made it all that better either, or what those circumstance lead up to what he's chosen to do, but that's neither here nor there. He does catch that look, unsure what to make of it.]

That's a awful hopeful way a thinkin'. [Eridan says flatly, his stern expression show casing his obvious disagreement with it before he can even say anything.] But you only know someone till you don't.

[He being a prime example of that, and his own faulty loyalties make it a little hard to trust other people, let alone with the way his culture brought him up. Always better to be the backstabber than the backstabee. He just can't find it in him to be all too upbeat about things like trust and friendship when he personally burned down every last friendship he had before coming here.]

[Jim's expression shifts, and he smiles a little. It's a crooked expression, and it doesn't quite reach his eyes, but it's there.]

People need hope, Highness. Dunno about you, but I always thought that assuming the worst of people always made them more likely to live up to it.

[Eridan's expression stays much the same. He's really not known for sunny smiles.]

Also makes you more likely to catch 'em before they can gently slip a knife in your spinal pillar.

[He shrugs. It's honestly ironic that he's given the title of Prince of Hope, when he's pretty much devoid of it entirely.]

[He'll still be wary for a good while, he can hardly trust his own species, so trusting someone who isn't, let alone a human, will take some work. Not impossible, but perhaps a little bit of a challenge.]

Well, first off royalty like myself wouldn't liwe in such close quarters with--well, eweryone. My hiwe was made from a marooned pirate ship on a island in the middle a the ocean, and while I'm a bit unique in my taste, what others a my caste made a their own personal hiwes, most a which bein' some manner of a castle or palace, were just as isolated. Mostly under the ocean. You know, away from the common rabble.

[But here he's forced to live along side those he otherwise thinks as inferior. It's pretty insulting.]

Secondly, this place is also downright peaceful. I ain't used to that.
