Video; In which cold weather is clearly the best!

[Everyone gets to see two familiar faces this time, with a couple of twists. Dick (the elder) is sitting down in the chair, wearing a bright red coat with white trim, a hat of the same color, and of course, a beard to match the whole thing. It’s pulled down, though, so you can see his face. And his wonderful assistant, Zatanna, is standing behind him, dressed up like the most beautiful elf there is. They’re both looking pretty happy about this.]

It’s getting cold out! And what does cold mean? Holiday fun, of course. So I, and my amazing elf assistant here, have decided that Santa Claus needs to come to the turtle. [See what he did there? See it? Okay, good.]

And so it is with pleasure that we let everyone know-- [He gets cut off as Zatanna leans forward, and he looks up at her.]

[The fifteen-year-old elf bends down until she's level with his ear, covering her mouth so she could whisper something secretively to him.]

Really?

[She nods, and offers a playful wink.] Trust me. I know a guy who knows the guy personally.

[Dick looks back at the screen, and his voice drops into a perfect, heavy Russian accent.] Is this better?

[She practically has to bite her tongue to keep from bursting out laughing. Impressive. She should've known.] It'll do.

[Dick grins.] I’d like to invite everyone to come over to the Wood sector, where we have a little holiday party going on.

[He stops, laughing and shaking his head. He has to drop the Russian accent.] Okay, I can’t keep that one up, but I tried! Anyway, we’ve got a small thing going on in a café in the Wood sector, with some cakes and gingerbread-ish things, and some hot drinks. And what would Santa be without his...

[He holds up a huge, red velvet-like bag.] Bag, yes! And it is filled with little odds and ends, so there are presents for all!

[Dick sets the bag down, and pulls the beard back up with a grin.] And to all, a good... day? Yeah, that still works. To all, a good day! Remember, café in the Wood sector, we’ll be here awhile!

But if you really don't want to go, then I guess I can't stop you. Though, out of curiosity...where would you like to go? If you could travel anywhere back home, where would it be?

You have not seen my Paris, then.

[She smiles, but it doesn't meet her eyes.] No, I would love to go. I would love to travel. But it is not a possibility. I have no home to go back to. In Paris, I am dead.

[And judging from her tone, Zatanna was guessing it wasn't the kind of dead you came back from.]

For what it's worth, you look great for a dead person.

[jondrette]

[For a moment, she looks at her incredulously.

Then, slowly, begins to laugh, bright, cheery, full-bodied.]

Thank you! Hah! What a complement! Thank you, Zatanna.

[And she means it.]

So...how do you like our party?

It is wonderful! I've been to Christmas parties before- my family would hold them- but this is different. I enjoy it.

What did your family used to do, way back when?

[jondrette]

We had an inn. We'd host parties, with plenty of drinks and food. It was always loud and cheery. [Until the man in the yellow coat arrived.]

That doesn't sound too different from here. Unless you're implying we're not loud enough.

They were fully grown men and women, and far more drunk.

[ action ]

...yeah, I'll pass on the alcohol thing.

But if you're implying the two of us can't be as loud as fully grown men and women, you obviously don't know why we were both made for the stage.

I only have just met you. Dick, I do not know. He said he was from the cirque. So that I do believe.

[She takes another bite of the cookie, her eyes lighting up.] Wait- you do not drink?

[She nods, knowing enough about her Dick to assume a number of things about the bigger one.]

I was raised by a stage magician. Spent a lot of time learning his tricks and helping out. I'm guessing they didn't have a Vegas where you're from, so let me put it this way: bright lights, flashy costumes, and a lot of jaws constantly dropping in awe of what you do.

...and I have drunk before. [Once] I'm just not in any major rush to repeat the occurrence.

[jondrette]

Oh goodness! That sounds stunning! I have been to the theater before, but all that and more? I should like to see it.

You did not enjoy it. [She concludes.] Very well. it is something I enjoy.

The actual drinking part wasn't so bad, really. It was the aftermath I didn't enjoy.

[Both the hangover and the fighting with Kyle over it, though as it turned out, that had less to do with the act of drinking and more of the whom she had been drinking with.]

[jondrette]

No, that is never fun. [She knew it well. And generally countered it with more drinking.]

Okay, so it wasn't just me. Good to know.

[jondrette]

It is. They have pills now, medicines, to take to make it better. Though I never had those.

So I found out.

Unfortunately, nobody bothered to point it out to me until after I'd spent an entire morning suffering. I guess that's one way to punish me, huh?

[jondrette]

Ah, yes. We never had those things, back in Paris. Simply water and more to drink.

Wouldn't that...you know...just make things worse?

[jondrette]

It kept it at bay.

For how long?

[jondrette]

For quite some time.

[backwordscompatible]

I don't know...I mean, won't you just feel even sicker when you finally stop drinking?

[Or, you know, die from alcohol poisoning?]
