[What greets the feed is a pair of frowning blue eyes and the sounds of buttons being hit on the console, along with the mutterings of a Welsh-accented voice.]

[Thankfully, before he resorts to that, the man realises he's done something correctly and the feed is displaying. He draws back, revealing a tanned, weather-beaten and scarred face, and a nose that looks like it's been mashed in at least once, all framed by a mess of blond hair. The man seems cheery enough, at least, despite his potentially fierce appearance.] Ah-- Ahoy, lads and ladies. Seems I'm a new addition to this little turtle-backed voyage. Name's Edward.

[He almost considered giving a false name, but really, who would recognise him in this place? And even if they did, they'd pose no threat to him, alone and without allies here. In any case...]

This wouldn't be the first time I've been whisked away by some Emperor or another, but I've little reason to bend the knee to this one. [He smiles, mirthlessly.] To business, then. I'd be much obliged if one of you charming bunch could introduce yourselves, and tell me where the best place is to knock back a drink.

What d'you mean by old? [Edward crosses his arms, looking sullen. He's just touchy, ignore him.]

Do you have any... "abilities" like the others, too? Or is it just your appearance that's different?

Old fashioned, like decades old or something. Hm, so odd questions, but are you from Earth and if so, what year is it?

[He pushes away from the desk and gets up, he walks further away from the console and then turns to face it. There's a 'bamf' noise and a puff of smoke before the noise happens again, closer and a purple-pink smoke appears and them the screen darkens. Kurt waves his hand to disperse the smoke more.]

I can teleport some distances.

[Before Edward can answer, Kurt's already getting up, and... bamf.]

That's a smoke bomb, isn't it? I'm not falling for a little parlour trick. [Maybe it's something he'd have to see in person to believe. But to answer his question...] Aye, I'm from Earth. When I left, it was the end of 1722.

[He rolls his eyes and oh, before he can say he'll show him it one day, he's now surprised.]

And that...would be why. I'm from 2010. So forget decades and replace it with centuries. Unbelievable! This is amazing!

[Amazing? Edward only manages to look bewildered; he can't even comprehend what things might be like that far in the future.

Besides people being blue, tailed, and having a fondness for smoke bombs. Obviously.]

Wait, so the Emperor can bring folks here from different centuries and different places? I must've missed that part.

[Ah yes, smoke bombs are like his security blanket. He can never leave home without them. Time travel wasn't something new, different worlds wasn't anything new to him either. So the thought of them when he arrived here was just like it was any other day. The only thing that threw him off was what had been happening before he woke up. Kurt simply nods though with a humourless smile.]

Times, worlds and planets and you'll notice it the longer you're here. There's a pattern to people arriving as well.

What kind of pattern?

[He'll definitely need a drink after this. It's all far too convoluted.]

[That was his view when he got here. More because so many people were showing up though.]

Once a week. The numbers vary though.

So this Emperor does her little summoning thing once a week. Does she really need that many people...?

That's not something I can answer for sure. We haven't really come up against the thing we're here to fight. Not exactly.

[He raises an eyebrow, disbelieving.] And how long have you been here, waiting for this big fight to happen?

Maybe six months? I was apparently here before as well, but can't remember it. There's people that have been here for over a year. So no one knows when its going to actually happen.

What are we expected to do in the meantime, then? Idle away the years until some call to arms goes up? Sounds like a load of shite if you ask me.

[Even if time stops at home, he doesn't want to be away that long. He has obligations there, to his family and to the Assassins. He has a daughter, now.]

Yeah it kind of does but we're not sitting doing nothing for long. Things happen here, spells go wrong, fights and parties. Anything to make it a little more interesting.

Spells? Christ, you're serious, aren't you.

[Magic. Like this place wasn't weird enough.]

There's no point in lying really. We have mages here that can cast all kinds of magic. I guess it might be hard to accept some things if it's not something you're used to.

Aye, that's putting it lightly.

[Edward pauses for thought, scratching his scruffy excuse for a beard. In his younger and more foolish years his mind would be afire on how to make the biggest profit from such things, if they had spells that could make lead into gold, or could they turn a man invisible so he could steal as much as he pleased? Edward's not the scoundrel he was in those days, but the possibilities are all certainly interesting.]

Magic tricks and smoke bombs. I never expected to find such things aboard a turtle's back.

Did you ever expect to find yourself on a turtle's back?

[Kurt had found himself in different lands, Limbo, some kind of hell, but not on an animal, so to him, the turtle was new.]

Not while I'm sober, mate.

[But magical things can happen when you're drunk on a beach in the Caribbean.]
