Verse 09 - Video

[Here's a seldom seen face on the network. Jehan's been sick and it shows--he's paler than normal and he sounds a little stuffy.

(The illness was actually convenient. He hasn't been feeling very sociable and this gave him a very good reason to not be sociable.)

But he is feeling better and he supposes he'd best let whoever may have been looking for him know, as well as see who all has shown up in his absence. In the background, you can hear his panpipes playing 19th century Christmas carols]

I had forgotten that simply because I am indisposed does not mean that the world at large is equally indisposed. I have been largely unavailable for the last month, for reasons I suspect are obvious [and here he turns to cough] and I am afraid I have no idea where we are or what has happened. Would anyone be so kind as to, ah, inform me?

For those who may have joined us in the last month, or for those who may have forgotten my face, I am Jean Prouvaire, formerly of Paris.

I am doing much better than I have been since I fell ill and, honestly, this is quite normal for me. Thank you, Mademoiselle Isabeau.

Oh, yes, I know it well. My friends, however, include two doctors who have been doing much of the...well, doctoring.

[Only it was really just one since Joly is...Joly and really not very useful when someone's sick like this]

[A nod. Now that he's at least getting treatment she can focus on something else.]

Wouldn't their techniques be outdated..? Your clothes suggest you're from the past.

The cold does not agree with you, does it, m'sieur Prouvaire? [Eponine asks, leaning in towards the PC, a half-grin on her face.]

I do not like to see you ill. Shall I bring you a warm broth?

No, it does not.

[And he sounds a little petulant about it.]

I do not care how many years I spent in Paris, the cold has never agreed with me and has made me quite miserable since I left Cannes. But, ah, do not trouble yourself, Éponine, unless you wish to bring something other than simple broth. I will admit I am a bit tired of it.

Then I shall make you something else. Simply say what it is, and I will have it for you. [Jehan, you must have her back in life, it's the rule. Because she wants to be your friend. Because Marius.

And she won't eat unless she makes something for anyone else tonight.]

This weather is nothing unusual for me. What is unusual is the ability to be warm with snow on the ground.

[He pauses for a moment, looking thoughtful, and then there's a widening of his eyes as he recalls something.]

Oh, no, Pontmercy, that is fine. I suspect Courfeyrac will no doubt have one he will push on me if I am unable to make it to the shops myself.

Courfeyrac had purchased me a fur hat, in fact. You can... [He almost says 'have it,' really, because yes it is that hideous, but he does not want to offend said friend, and so,] borrow it, perhaps?

How are you feeling, Jehan? I apologise I have not checked in on you to-day, but it seemed you were doing quite better than previously.

I am quite tired of soup and broth, and I am still given to coughing, but I do feel better. You are a marvelous doctor, mon ami.

[That smile just gets a bit wider.]

Thank you, mon ami. I should think you might leave off with the soup and broth, if you wish, at this point.

Ah, I am not sure my face is anything approaching "pretty", Dorian. Especially not right now. I am much too miserable for that.

Good mood has nothing to do with aesthetics. In fact, I have it on the good authority of many artists that a happy and content subject isn't a particularly interesting one. [He flashes Jehan a smile. Romantic poets.

And then he grins a little.] Just, you know. Keep a handkerchief on hand if you want to stay completely portrait-ready.
