[Kaine was sitting at one of the numerous cafes in the Earth sector, wearing his Scarlet Spider costume and feeling like an idiot in doing so. Unfortunately, he couldn't make this as Kaine, not when he couldn't remember the kid's real name to save his life.

At least this time he knew how to work the damn console.]

And what's to stop you from dying like Peter did? [...Why is he asking this? He isn't this kid's parent. If he wants to jump off a bridge and kill himself, it's not his problem.]

[Nothing. There's nothing stopping him from dying. He's almost died he doesn't even know how many times now, because he keeps doing stupid things like trying to fight crime with NO freaking experience or training.

And maybe it's obvious by the long pause that he can't think of any answer that will satisfy Kaine, or maybe Miles is being mysterious and non-question-answer-y like Kaine is. (Spoiler: it's the former.)]

I learned to fight because I was just going to die anyway. [There's a long pause, as he tries to figure out what he wants to say next because frankly he's not sure why he said that in the first place.] So I can tell you from experience there's a difference between fighting like you have nothing to lose, and fighting like you have something to lose. I'm guessing you're the latter.

[Another pause. Where the hell is he going with this...?]

Yeah, I... [He gestures to the envelope with the picture of his family inside.] I kind of already lost something, and I don't want to lose the rest of it.

[Even he doesn't know where Kaine was going with that, or why he's seemingly trying to help. It doesn't really fit with how he's acted before.]

[So this kid had an "Uncle Ben" moment already. He was too young to deal with that.]

...I'm a crap teacher, but if you want I have a gym set up in my suite that you're more than welcome to use. We can spar or something.
