[Iskierka is in her suite today, frowning at a hole in her wall, close to the floor. Through the hole can be seen the back legs and shell of a young turtle, and Iskierka huffs a moment, as she sees what her adopted progeny is up to. The turtle's happily munching away on a fine piece of cloth, draped somewhat artfully on a wall and pinned there.]

Yin! Do not eat that, it is not filling at all. [She abandons the console for a moment to attempt to hold the young turtle back, and then shoves the tapestry up a bit higher.]

Come along, Yin, we shall find you some fish or some plants; perhaps a stew -- may turtles eat stew? I suppose that Gong Su would know, but he is not here.

[Then her neck cranes back towards the console, still keeping a firm claw on the erstwhile Yin.]

Does anyone know what young turtles might eat?

Yes, Toph picked her name. [And Yin is coming and nosing at the console now, excitedly, sending out a 'hello' in Enjolras' direction.]

I can certainly catch a great amount of fish, I just do not know how he would like to eat it.

Oh that IS a good point, [Enjolras is frowning, rather thoughtfully, as he considers.] Do you suppose he would tell you if he prefers it should you ask? And hello, Yin. [He's casting a nod in the turtle's direction.] it is good to finally meet you.

She prefers most anything, as you can see; I was only wondering if she might like a fish stew, perhaps.

That might be worth a try. I am actually FROM a seafairing port, and yet I cannot say I know turtles well. It seems that that would not harm her at least.

You seem to be doing well with her.

Well, she is still rather smaller than I am, it is not so difficult.

She is at that.

Were you so small, when you were hatched?

[That thought is kind of adorable, really.]

Smaller than that, Temeraire could pick me up in his mouth.

[This all sounds quite adorable, really, and Enjolras, imagining Temeraire his current size picking up a baby Iskierka is quite surprised to picture it.]

That is much smaller than I had thought, actually.

Well, our eggs are not nearly as big as Yin's was.

And I suppose at that rate, if you can walk here, even though I believe you said you've been made a little smaller to fit, that does make sense.

I have, I am scarcely the size of a hatchling here. It is quite inconvenient.

So small as that? I know you've spoken of how large your crew is but to really consider that...

You must be even more a force to reckon with, at home.

[Of course, she is preening here. Enjolras knows how to please her.]

[Who says Enjolras doesn't know how to talk to girls? ...It probably says something about him that Iskierka is one of the few ladies he can compliment effectively but...let's not ruin the moment just now.]

[Enjolras is nodding, quite seriously, for the moment there, though that's almost ruined a moment later with a fond smile.]

That is only one chou, you know. Used together, they mean something very different, pet.

[And now a somewhat dubious look.] Very well, but French is quite queer.

I suppose that it can be at that. Ironically, English has always seemed particularly difficult to me. All of the tenses and the words that sound alike.

It is not so difficult; but we learn languages in the shell.

And it would stand to reason you have much larger brains, more room for information of that sort. How many languages do you know of now?

Oh -- Turkish, of course, and English, and some French and Polish, and I know a bit of Durzagh, it is a dragon-tongue.

Turkish? I think you are the first I've met who knows any of that. And dragon tongues...That must be entirely different from our human speech. I never had considered you must have one of your own before. An arrogance on my part, though not intended.

Of course the ferals do, they do not live with humans.

[It does make sense. really, that feral dragons WOULD exist, now Enjolras considers it. He HAD sort of come up with this idea, in his head, that all dragons worked with human but he sees how stupid that sort of thinking is, now. Still.]

Are there many feral dragons where you come from? Temeraire has mentioned a few times that you are not always treated fairly, and finding arguments for such things. If it could be proved that their societies do well...I think that could help a good deal in gaining dragonkind some equal rights. Not that I should speak of such as if I know your world at all, but the thought DOES occur.

There are some, yes, but they do not generally live in our coverts. Some of them are sent to the breeding grounds, in England, but Arkady and his lot came from Asia before I was hatched. I do not much know what their societies are like.

[Pff, rights, who cares about those. Clearly she doesn't, much, from the dismissive tone there.]
