[Elizabeth is not in the suite she was last seen at. Nor is she nearly as happy looking. Oh, no, the young woman that appears on the screen right now is extremely cross, her bright blue eyes ringed with red and dark circles. Her mouth is set in a fine line and her jaw tight.]

Do not trust Booker DeWitt. He's a liar and a thug.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

[Without any further explanation, she cuts the feed.]

[What was her name. She sure as hell wasn't Anna. And she never would be.]

Elizabeth. [Just Elizabeth. Not Comstock, not DeWitt. Elizabeth.]

Nice to meet you Elizabeth, even though I'd like it to be in other circumstances. I'm Clark.

What did that man do to you? Are you hurt?

Thank you, Clark. I would, too.

He- no. Not... Not physically. Not anymore. I don't know how to explain it.

He hurt you in the past? [But she's so young, had the man done something her when she was a toddler? She did mention going back in time but... he doesn't think that's what's happening in this situation.]

Did he lie to you, maybe?

When I was a baby. I couldn't have been more than a few months old... [She hangs her head.]

Fathers are supposed to protect and love their children, aren't they, Clark? [What's terrible is that she honestly does not know. Not from experience, anyway.]

Yes. [Clark himself has had two set of loving parents, a father who loved him enough to fight his culture and government and another who adopted him and accepted him despite how quickly it became obvious his abilities could be dangerous.]

Is he your father? Did he not protect you?

Yes.

[She lowers her head.] He gave me away. Sold me when I was a baby, to get rid of his debts. [Sure, he protected her later, but that wasn't what mattered here. He did it because she was another means to an end. She wasn't a person to him. Just a meal ticket.]

He sold me to a terrible, terrible man.

He did what. [A lot of possibilities had been running through his head, none of them pretty. It isn't even really a question, just a remark as he tries to give his brain time to process it.]

I'm- I'm sorry, dear. No person should be sold for money, let alone a daughter.

[Elizabeth nods gravely. She knows what the connotations of that indicate, though it was nothing of the sort. Not really. She'd been experimented on. Tortured. Kept locked away from the whole world with only her bird and books for company.]

This whole time... He never once came to look for me. Until the ones that brokered the deal grew a backbone. Until they asked him to come rescue me. To get him out of another debt. [She practically spits the word]

And you didn't know until now? [He's kind of astonished. This is- Clark isn't naive, or at least not as naive as others believe him to be. But he still feels a huge deal of empathy, and right now he wants nothing less than to go hug the girl (and punch the man).

Given what she's told him, he isn't sure she'd appreciate it.] What are you planning to do now?

I had no idea. I just thought he had come to rescue me. He was going to take me to Paris. I gave up my freedom so he could live. I went back to Comstock for him.

[Every time she thinks about it, she feels ill. Below her desk, her nails bite into the palms of her hands.]

I'm never speaking to him again. I'm staying with a friend. He can live a long and miserable life without me, as far as I'm concerned.

[He doesn't know the man, but as far as Clark knows he deserves nothing less than that.]

I hope your friend is able to help you, knowing that must have been a shock to you. Is there any way I can help?
