[Elizabeth is not in the suite she was last seen at. Nor is she nearly as happy looking. Oh, no, the young woman that appears on the screen right now is extremely cross, her bright blue eyes ringed with red and dark circles. Her mouth is set in a fine line and her jaw tight.]

[He gently runs a hand through her hair, comforting.]

I don't know, Elizabeth. I could not even begin to assume. I think he is the only one who can tell you.

[beunbroken]

I'm not going to talk to him. [She says shortly, even as she nuzzles his leg in appreciation.] I don't ever want to see that man again. He has no right to call himself my father, let alone a friend.

[starcharter]

[He continues to stroke her hair. Chekov's silent for a moment, thinking.]

Family is not something given, but something you acquire.

Hmm, no I don't think that's exactly the saying.

[beunbroken]

I think that's respect, [she says, letting her eyes drift closed.]

Relatives are the people you're related to, Family is the people you choose? I can't remember it either.

[starcharter]

The sentiment is more important than the wording, I think.

[beunbroken]

You're right.

[She looks up at him, opening her eyes.] Lay down with me? I just want to feel someone near me.

[starcharter]

Okay.

[It's not an awkward request to him. He knows the feeling of needing someone nearby.]

[beunbroken]

Thank you. [She takes his hand carefully in both of hers, cradling it to her chest.]
