[He thought a good night’s sleep would cure him from this weariness, but when he woke up in the room he remembered seeing in his dream well that was more than enough information to let him know this was real. It’s not the giant turtle that gets to him or even this sector with canals and fountains. No, it all reminds him of home. What gets him is him being drafted into some unknown war by some noble. That’s unreal. Maybe if he were a knight, it’d be different, but he discarded that idea some time ago.

Playing with the console he was taught how to use, he figured he may as well see if he can really transmit a message. If he was fooled, well, it’ll make him look like an idiot to anyone within an earshot of him. If he wasn’t, then this would be a good way to find some useful information.]

So, we’ve been brought here to fight a war, right? I’m sure that’s a question you’ve all heard lots of time from newbies like me. I get that, really, but shouldn’t I get some say in whether I want to fight? [His voice sounds weary, still tired from all this despite getting sleep. More or less finding displeasure in this situation.] Whatever, I’m stuck here, aren’t I? May as well do what I can. [Not that he sounds enthusiastic about this.]

Is there some sort of training facility around? I mean, if they want us to fight, we gotta keep up with our skills, right? If not, I’d love to have a sparring partner or two. [He grins at this point, excited at the thought of fighting otherworldy people. Are they strong? Can they actually put a scratch on him? If they can kick his ass then that’s even better. It’ll help Yuri get stronger.]

Also, I was told I needed to ‘find a job’. [He almost scoffs at this statement. The only jobs he’s had are guild jobs. Oh, and being a knight, but that didn’t go well.] I’m pretty handy with a sword and a spatula, so there’s my resume. [Cooking is even better because that gets him close to sweets to satiate his sweet tooth. He’d call that pretty even pay.]

Well, hope this went through. If not, then I probably made myself sound like an idiot trying. [He gives a lopsided grin, chuckling at the end as he’s trying to figure out how to send this and turn it off. After a few seconds of fumbling, he finally gets it.]

Well, usually it refers to cooking, but if you've got nothing else in a fight it can back quite a punch.

[Not that he's really had to use it for that reason, but he would if necessary.]

So how good at cooking at you?

I can make decent meals. At least my comrades back home always make me cook when we're on the road.

[And he makes them with love.]

[ Decent is leaps and bounds better than what Tony's capable of. ]

I've got nothing to offer in the soldier department, I'm an inventor and a businessman, not really a military guy, but if you wanted to cook here, I could give you a job.

I'm sure I can get a good fight in somewhere, so it's not that big of a deal. [And he's kind of lazy and only fights when something or someone intrigues him. Or the occasional mercenary mission.]

But I'd like to take you up on that offer. Sounds better than nothing.

[ The corner of his lips twitch, not quite a whole smile but the start of one. Like maybe it's a joke. ]

It wouldn't be very demanding. A few hours a day, four or five days a week. I'm a little erratic in my eating habits and one of my coworkers - [ Namely, JARVIS. ] - is kind of a nag, so it'd just be making something for me while I'm at work. Stark Industries. It's in the Fire sector.

I can make whatever, whenever. Never really had a set schedule myself. [He's more than okay with that given he just gets up and at 'em whenever the hell he feels like.]

I'm still new to this place, and I'm aware I was given a brochure, but where's this Fire Sector? The room I was given is in the Water Sector. [Explain directions to him so he doesn't actually have to open up reading material and read.]

[ Tony can relate to not having had a set schedule. Even if he ought to have one, he doesn't. Not here and not at home. ]

Fire's near the palace. It's the sector closest to the turtle's head. Sorry, cardinal directions are pretty useless here.

[ And he's not a sailor. The only directional phrases he finds useful are headward and assward. He takes a minute to type up a small set of directions from the center of Water to Stark Industries and sends them over. ]

There. That might help. I'm Tony, by the way. Tony Stark.

[Give him a moment to actually see these said directions or open them. Ah, there he goes. That was pretty simple. Well, at least it gives him an understanding.]

Yeah, it does. Thanks, Tony. I'm Yuri Lowell.

[ Yuri. That sounds Russian. Tony doesn't have anything against Russians in general, but they always inevitably remind him of Ivan Vanko. ]

Nice to meet you, Yuri. Where're you from? Before all this, I mean.

From a world called Terca Lumireis, and if that means anything to you, then more specifically I'm from Zaphias.

[He shrugs, feeling like that's a good enough answer.]

[ Terca Lumireis. He runs that name through his mind, trying it out. Definitely not Russian. So Yuri's an alien. That's okay, he can deal with that. ]

Sounds like we're from different worlds. I'm from a place called Malibu. It's on a planet that we've oh-so-not-creatively called Earth.

[Yes, exactly. He's an alien on an alien planet that he's pretty sure none of them belong to. Pot calling the kettle black here.]

Sounds like it. Never heard of those places.

[Calling a place 'Earth' definitely seems... odd.]

Earth, though. Is it all land or something?

No.

[ He shakes his head, rolling his eyes at his collective species. ]

It's a mixture of land and water and icebergs. A lot of people are just ego-centric and think the planet's the only one out there with life on it. Not everybody, though. Plenty of people think they're getting abducted and probed by little grey guys with huge eyes and some farmers think extraterrestrials are drawing designs in their crops.

[ He also thinks those people are quacks. Real aliens, in his experience, don't act like that. ]

We call the sun "the sun" and the moon "the moon" so... Primitive name-giving humans are pretty unimaginative.

[Yuri's not the most educated of people, okay?]

Sounds like you come from an interesting world. Don't think I even know people that crazy. [Okay, maybe he does, but he prefers to forget he ever encountered said people. He then blinks at that last statement.]

What else would you call the sun and the moon? That's what we call it, too. Guess that's something our worlds have in common.

[ Technically, he doesn't know any people that crazy either. Well, okay, maybe Loki, but he doesn't really count as an acquaintance. ]

We named the moons of other planets in our solar system. Granted, most of them are named after mythological things - Titan, Pan, Prometheus, Pandora - but at least they have names.

What's it like, your world? How far as your technology gotten?

So they're named kinda like stars are. [Well, some stars. He only knows the name of one, and it counts, okay?]

Technology? [Uh, this field is not his forte but here goes nothing...] We have blastia. It cleans our water, lights our streets, makes things move. I can also wear one and it makes me strong. People can also use magic if they wear one. [A++ explanation, Yuri Lowell, A++.....]

[ Actually, yeah. They're a lot like the stars. Tony nods in agreement, about to voice it as well, but he gets sidetracked by this blastia business. ]

So it's... [ He has no idea. It sounded like electricity up until Yuri started talking about wearing it. ] Is it... So it's a device? Something portable that you can wear? Is it the same kind of device that cleans your water?

Yeah, something like that. [Really, he sucks at explaining this stuff. Right! He has an example of his own! Showing his gold and red bracelet to the screen.]

This is one, a blastia, that is.

[ He leans forward slightly, eyes narrowing in thought as he studies it. Vaguely, it reminds him of his armor. Maybe it's just the color. ]

So it lets you use magic too? In addition to being strong? What kind of magic can you do?

Technically, it can, but... I can't use it.

[The explanation for why is really stupid, but he finds it valid...]

[ His eyebrows rise, but if the guy doesn't want to talk about it, Tony isn't going to pester him. He understands keeping secrets as well as the next person. ]

Fair enough.

[The secret is he hates studying, no... really.]

So, can you use magic?

Nope. This is a magic-free zone. I've seen it in action a few times. That's about it.

Magic-free, huh? Can't say I'd know what it's like to live in a world without it. I guess it's just too commonplace where I'm from.
