[He thought a good night’s sleep would cure him from this weariness, but when he woke up in the room he remembered seeing in his dream well that was more than enough information to let him know this was real. It’s not the giant turtle that gets to him or even this sector with canals and fountains. No, it all reminds him of home. What gets him is him being drafted into some unknown war by some noble. That’s unreal. Maybe if he were a knight, it’d be different, but he discarded that idea some time ago.

Playing with the console he was taught how to use, he figured he may as well see if he can really transmit a message. If he was fooled, well, it’ll make him look like an idiot to anyone within an earshot of him. If he wasn’t, then this would be a good way to find some useful information.]

So, we’ve been brought here to fight a war, right? I’m sure that’s a question you’ve all heard lots of time from newbies like me. I get that, really, but shouldn’t I get some say in whether I want to fight? [His voice sounds weary, still tired from all this despite getting sleep. More or less finding displeasure in this situation.] Whatever, I’m stuck here, aren’t I? May as well do what I can. [Not that he sounds enthusiastic about this.]

Is there some sort of training facility around? I mean, if they want us to fight, we gotta keep up with our skills, right? If not, I’d love to have a sparring partner or two. [He grins at this point, excited at the thought of fighting otherworldy people. Are they strong? Can they actually put a scratch on him? If they can kick his ass then that’s even better. It’ll help Yuri get stronger.]

Also, I was told I needed to ‘find a job’. [He almost scoffs at this statement. The only jobs he’s had are guild jobs. Oh, and being a knight, but that didn’t go well.] I’m pretty handy with a sword and a spatula, so there’s my resume. [Cooking is even better because that gets him close to sweets to satiate his sweet tooth. He’d call that pretty even pay.]

Well, hope this went through. If not, then I probably made myself sound like an idiot trying. [He gives a lopsided grin, chuckling at the end as he’s trying to figure out how to send this and turn it off. After a few seconds of fumbling, he finally gets it.]

Don't see it as being forced to fight a war. Try thinking of it as a vacation that you had no choice in and could possibly get you killed instead.

[Give him a moment on that one. Okay, he'll laugh just a little. He knows when someone trying to lighten up the situation.]

Pretty sure that counts as fighting in a war, unless we're not participating and forced to stay in a war zone. Then that'd be the vacation you're talking about.

As far as I know there's no law that you have to participate. It might help us get home a little quicker but then again I've heard some people have been here for years so maybe not.

You might be better off sitting in your house stuffing yourself full of sweets for all I know.

As much as I'd like to do that, I'm not sure if that sounds like the life I'd like to live. Though maybe sitting in my house stuffing myself with sweets once in a while sounds like an amazing vacation. Even better if there are big monsters to fight around here.

Can't say the idea appeals to me much either honestly. My sweet tooth would rot out of my head.

There's a shortage of monsters going around here it seems. Of course there are plenty of weird looking people around here, but they're mostly harmless.

Weird people aren't fun to fight if they're harmless. Unless they want a friendly spar, then that'd be fun.

Don't worry, there are plenty of normal people you can poke with a stick too.

But yeah, I get what you mean.

There's plenty of other fun to be had here I'm sure. You just might want to tell everyone when you find, otherwise they'll just continue complaining about how bored they are.

Fun can be anything if you try hard enough.

[And with a mischievous tone in his voice, well, one can see how he had fun most likely.]

I have to take what I can get when I'm not solving everyone's problems.

We all do. You try to do one thing then suddenly your stuck helping another person. It's an endless cycle.

[Maybe if he could be a real asshole and say 'no' he wouldn't be caught up in this stuff, but ah, he kinda likes it.]

Maker don't I know that. You'd think we'd learn but I suppose not.

[Of course Hawke is all but incapable of saying no. Sometimes just for the thrill of another adventure and other times because he genuinely wants to help. Usually it's a mix of both.]

I like to call it 'being cursed', but I suppose there's different ways of putting it.

[Translation: He's a nice guy who can't stand seeing people suffer so he does the self-sacrificial thing and tries to help everyone while asking for no reward.]

Maybe that's a way to put it.

It describes my situation at least.

A person with common sense wouldn't be trying to help everyone in sight. Gets overwhelming, y'know? Not that I'd know what it's like to have it.

[Though he has enough street smarts to know when not to get involved in something. Maybe...]

Trust me, I know all too well. It's been the past six years of my life.

Definitely beats my past year.

[He'd count his entire life, but kicking knights into rivers to stop them from taxing the poor doesn't count as much as, say, helping a princess find her identity and meaning in life.]

It's been interesting. I'll give it that.

It always is, for better or for worse.

If only I could decide which it actually is.
