[Gene turns on the feed and is about to speak. He opens his mouth to say something, and then, quite suddenly - there is a large amount of snow coating his hair. And half the inside of his suite. Among the snow is a vast collection of random junk, including some Angry Birds robots and other things people may recognize as once belonging to an absentee trickster god.

Also there's a bloodhound. A bloodhound which is rolling around in the snow and saying indistinct things about entrails and murder. Standard stuff, really, for a bloodhound.

Gene closes his mouth, whatever he was about to say forgotten in the wake of this new fuckery. He looks back, taking in the scene behind him for a good five seconds, and turns back to the camera, his face a mask of utter, dangerous calm.]

Loki...

[He takes a deep breath. The mask of calm shatters when he yells:]

...what the fuck?!

[Gene takes all the dignity he can muster, somewhat tempered by the smoking hellhound in the background of the shot.]

[He doesn't sound entirely sorry.]

You need some help with that-- ... is that even a dog?

[Bizarrely the dog kinda reminds him of Eren. Sorta. In a weird way.]

It's near enough to one. Except for the talking. And breathing fire. Really it's more dog-shaped than anything.

Depending on how wild it gets, I could use some assistance.

There many of these things around?

[If there's wild packs of talking, fire-breathing dog-shaped things about, he wants to know.]

Just let me know. I've handled things bigger than that.

So far as I know, this is the only one.

[And thank all listening deities for that.]

I should be able to take care of it.

[Reiner gives a little nod. He doesn't know this kid, but if he feels competent enough to tackle a fire-breathing, dog-shaped thing, who was Reiner to judge that.]

Is that its name, by the way? Loki, I mean.

[Thanks, Reiner! That's actually nice to hear, that someone believes in him.]

No, it's my friend's name. I'm pretty sure he sent this hellhound. And the rest of this crap. Not sure what the dog's name is, though.

I guess for now it's up to you to name it. Until your friend comes to pick up his dog.

[A pause in which he stares at beast. It seems calmer. It also seems to be savaging one of the angry bird robots in a way that would be sickening if it was guts spilling out instead of cogs.]

... though I'm not sure how much luck you are going to have getting it to listen. Was that-- [a wince as the metal gives under the dog's jaws with a metallic screech.] I hope that wasn't expensive.

[Flatly:] Not mine, don't care.

Got any suggestions for naming it? I'm open to ideas.

[That is so immediate that he feels he owes this kid some explanation.]

He just reminds me of an old... friend.

[Lets settle for friend, yeah.]

He could get intense like that.

[Skeptical:] You had a friend who reminds you of that?

Sounds like you have worse luck with friends than I do.

He's not such a bad kid. Very driven.

[He sounds very fond of the kid. Which is pretty bad overall, what with how Reiner had to betray him and how Eren probably just wants to kill him at this point.]

It's good. He needs that drive. It might help him survive.

[You know, against him and the rest of the monsters.]

["Driven" is such a nice word. Gene considers himself driven.]

I've found that it usually does.

Despite having no outstanding talents, he used that drive to push himself right to the top ten of our class. It was pretty impressive to watch.

[Reiner could appreciate that. He might still not have been the best, but considering the competition, he had gone far further than any of them might have expected. Dangerous to their plans, but on a personal level, he had been impressed.]

No outstanding talents? Doesn't sound like this thing, then.

[Hey, having the ability to commit arson is totally an outstanding talent. And possibly part of an outstanding arrest warrant.]
