[Hawke doesn't like these consoles. In fact he doesn't much like anything more technologically advanced than say, a crossbow. Unfortunately this city is full of gadgets and gizmos he doesn't understand. Nilin helped show him just how vastly out of his league he is when it comes to such things. If he's going to be here for the long haul though, he needs to adapt. To adapt, he'll need some help.]

So who here has any know-how with these console things? I'm tired of barely knowing what I'm doing with this thing. There's already enough things in this city that make me feel stupid. I don't need one more.

[And after a certain encounter he doesn't trust his fellow Foreigners as much as he once did. Plus it might be helpful to know these things when you're in the smuggling business.]

And does anyone know anything about mind control? More specifically on how to stop it?

[If that summoner is the least bit competent he'll be able to piece this together easily. The thought doesn't bother Hawke. Let him think Hawke is scared, but he doesn't make the mistake of underestimating people. One of the reasons he comes out alive after all his battles.]

I think not exploding is a pretty good start.

I'm no real expert, haven't touched a computer in over ten years, not one that works anyway, but they used to be pretty big where I come from. Is the keyboard weirding you out?

Yes I consider a lack of explosions a good thing.

[His face scrunches up in confusion.]

[Hawke grabs his keyboard and lifts it to show through the video. Yes Tess, this is level of ineptness you're dealing with.]

[She covers her mouth with her hand for a moment, coughing to hide her laughter.]

Yeah, that's it. I take it you don't have, uh, typewriters or anything like that in your world?

[Sigh, damn he hates looking stupid.]

I don't have a clue what you're talking about so I'm guessing no.

Wow. [Tess blinks. She's used to roughing it, don't get her wrong. Her world has done without a lot of really basic things for a long time, but she can't imagine not even being familiar with a typewriter or what it is.]

Honestly, you sound like you're doing pretty damn good, all things considered. I mean, I can barely turn the damn thing on and get the video going, myself. Though I think I might just be goin' old and senile.

I can press a few buttons and turn it on. That's the extent of my ability. Everything else might as well be gibberish to me.

[Hawke chuckles and grins at her.]

[Honestly though she doesn't look any older than he does. Maybe that just means he's going senile too.]

Uh, no, I'd say your excuse is pretty good - coming from a world where this stuff doesn't even exist is a pretty good excuse.

That's not incompetence. Just ignorance. And ignorance can always be fixed.

Anyway, I don't see that this thing is too important. You can get along pretty well without using it much. Life happens outside, not on a console.

Ignorance gets people killed. I very much want to stay alive.

Maybe so, but it can't hurt. Hopefully. Explosions do have a nasty habit of following me around.

I'm pretty sure not knowing all the inner workings of the consoles and the network isn't a big deal. Not really a life-or-death situation, here.

Then again, I'd hate for somethin' to blow up and singe that nice beard of yours.

I mean, do they give out awards for beards where you come from? Because you should have a trophy.

And I couldn't put the women here though something like that. Men too I suppose but I'm a little less concerned about that.

Champion? Of beards? [She snorts at her own joke, because really, who goes around being called Champion?]

[Superheroes save cities, right? It's been a long time since Tess bothered with stuff like that - and she was never a comic reader.]

Uh, I suppose? Still not entirely sure what those are supposed to be.

How about we just make it easy for both of us and stick with Hawke?

Oh, there's a few around here. They a lot of times go by names like "Steel Man" or "Lava Man" - and they'll have powers and stuff. [She waves a hand vaguely.]

But I'm good with Hawke. Nice and simple. So is saving cities what you did back home?
