[Hawke doesn't like these consoles. In fact he doesn't much like anything more technologically advanced than say, a crossbow. Unfortunately this city is full of gadgets and gizmos he doesn't understand. Nilin helped show him just how vastly out of his league he is when it comes to such things. If he's going to be here for the long haul though, he needs to adapt. To adapt, he'll need some help.]

So who here has any know-how with these console things? I'm tired of barely knowing what I'm doing with this thing. There's already enough things in this city that make me feel stupid. I don't need one more.

[And after a certain encounter he doesn't trust his fellow Foreigners as much as he once did. Plus it might be helpful to know these things when you're in the smuggling business.]

And does anyone know anything about mind control? More specifically on how to stop it?

[If that summoner is the least bit competent he'll be able to piece this together easily. The thought doesn't bother Hawke. Let him think Hawke is scared, but he doesn't make the mistake of underestimating people. One of the reasons he comes out alive after all his battles.]

Uh, no, I'd say your excuse is pretty good - coming from a world where this stuff doesn't even exist is a pretty good excuse.

That's not incompetence. Just ignorance. And ignorance can always be fixed.

Anyway, I don't see that this thing is too important. You can get along pretty well without using it much. Life happens outside, not on a console.

Ignorance gets people killed. I very much want to stay alive.

I'm pretty sure not knowing all the inner workings of the consoles and the network isn't a big deal. Not really a life-or-death situation, here.

Then again, I'd hate for somethin' to blow up and singe that nice beard of yours.

Most of the female population of the turtle and a lot of the male probably wouldn't, either.

I mean, do they give out awards for beards where you come from? Because you should have a trophy.

And I couldn't put the women here though something like that. Men too I suppose but I'm a little less concerned about that.

Oh, there's a few around here. They a lot of times go by names like "Steel Man" or "Lava Man" - and they'll have powers and stuff. [She waves a hand vaguely.]

But I'm good with Hawke. Nice and simple. So is saving cities what you did back home?

Creative bunch aren't they.

[Who would call themselves that? Maker that's more embarrassing than Champion.]

Cities, people, sometimes animals if they're cute enough.

So what you're telling me is, you are a professional hero.

Personally I like professional problem solver. Calling me hero makes me sound a lot nobler than I actually am.

[He's made one too many mistakes to actually think of himself as a hero.]

Happy to, but don't think that means you get a cut of the profits. You gotta earn that.

Fortunately I don't have much problem earning my own profit.

I feel like I should try to make that into a dirty joke somehow, but it's just not workin' for me.
