My mission was with some people to learn how to, ah... Detect energies that don't really belong? In order to help tell if someone might be compromised by Mal-nyan.

Well now, that sounds incredibly useful.

[Suddenly Hawke feels like a character from one of Varric's stories when a plot point just conveniently falls into their lap.]

It's... not really. [ he tries not to sound frustrated by this, but hey, he had high hopes. ] It's like looking for water in an ocean. At least for me. I haven't had a chance to see if anyone else has had any better luck, but whenever I check it's everywhere, with no point of origin.

[Hawke deflates just slightly at that.]

Maybe it's something you just have to get better at.

[It's not a dig at Akito. Even magic takes training to be of any use.]

[Hawke slumps a little in his chair and breathes a sigh.]

I'm going to talk to some of the other people I was on the mission with, and see if they've noticed anything different. It could just be that I haven't been close enough to someone that was corrupted.

Not a bad idea. Having walking, talking detectors of evil sounds very useful.

[There's got to be something that can be done with a skill like that. Maybe they just need to get creative.]

[Hawke snaps his fingers and points at Akito.]

[ he jolts at the sudden sound - sensitive hearing is both a boon and a curse, and since he had his hearing enhanced during landfall he finds himself more easily spooked by sudden, loud noises. ]

[Hawke looks a little confused by Akito's reaction. He takes a moment to look down at his fingers before looking back at the boy. Since when was Akito that jumpy?]

[He smirks but he part of him thinks there's more to it.]

It's our best shot I've seen yet. That thing is becoming more aggravating than a bad rash.

[If only they knew what its plan was. For a being that wants nothing but death it's been doing very little killing of late, or at all as far as Hawke knows.]

[ akito nods in agreement, because it's not like anyone can really disagree. ]

It's been too quiet since the bombings for something created. To destroy. And it isn't like we can build an army to take back the castle. And with eyes everywhere it would be too dangerous and disadvantageous to sneak into the castle - even if someone has already, which they probably have or are planning to soon given the kind of people we have around, ne?

[ gone are the days of him playing dumb. Mostly. ]

[Hawke already knows someone who's been in the castle already but she wants him to keep her secret so that's just what he's going to do.]

And that's why we hit it indirectly. We already tried smashing our heads against it. Throwing a rock at it can't be any worse.

As long as it's just a rock, and not super powers that might bounce back, ne?
