We should talk. Think I may have actually found something useful for once.

Let's keep this simple so I don't have to play with this thing much longer. Who here visited the library on the island?

[He pauses for a moment.]

And someone tell Evandau to clear his schedule. I need to talk to him.

[Hawke nods his head sagely.]

Why else would they come at me with shears? They obviously want to cut it off and stick it to their face.

[Another chuckle. Nilin shakes her head and falls quiet. For all their banter, there's a lot on her mind.]

Say, do you think the gangs might be involved with our M friend?

[It's the banter that keeps him from worrying so much. All their talk makes him feel at home.

As he gives the idea thought, he can only nod his head again this time in seriousness.]

It wouldn't surprise me if it had its hand in there somehow.

[He gives her a playful grin.]

Maybe we start being a little harder on them, just in case.

I can't see it being a bad thing.

[It's worrying to even consider that Malicant is involved, but it makes too much sense in her mind. That thing has allies in the city that are yet to be revealed. It's time they start looking around.]

Who knows, maybe we'll uncover something interesting in the process.

I almost always find something interesting when I'm stirring up trouble.

[That's how he met her after all, but she's right of course. If they're going to get anywhere they need to start pushing boundaries. It's time to stop reacting and start acting.]

But for now let's focus on one crazy goal before jumping to the next.

[She agrees, but there's a weariness with the words.]

Just so you know, I'm terrible at that.

So am I, but if we put our heads together I'm sure we can figure it out.

[He turns his head to look at her. For a moment it seems he might do something but then reconsiders as he starts to stand.]

One way or another we'll figure this all out.

[She knows him enough to tell that something just happened, or almost happened, but Nilin can't be sure of what. Focusing on his words, she nods and looks up at him.]

We will, yes.

[Pushing off her knees, Nilin gets to her feet and drops the book back on her desk.]

Hawke?

[Mentally Hawke berates himself though he tries not to show it on his face.

He barely moves before Nilin says his name and he turns to face her.]

Yes?

Thank you.

[For everything. For being himself. For being a friend.]

It's... good to have an ally in all of this. I'm glad you're here.

[Again a voice in his head screams at him to act but once more he ignores it.

When he smiles at her, it's genuine and affectionate.]

Likewise. Don't worry, I don't have plans of going anywhere anytime soon.

[He stands there, holding her gaze for a moment longer before slowly moving towards the door.]

I'll talk to you again soon.

[She smiles back, expression soft. He was never meant to matter, but he does.]

Alright. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

I'm looking forward to it.

[With that, he leaves but he doesn't get very far. He stands just outside her door looking ahead of him, his mind racing. After what feels like an eternity he swears under his breath, turns around, and knocks on her door again.

Hawke knows he cares for her far more than he should. He knows that what he's about to do will just make that worse. Right now, he just doesn't care about that.]

[The knock on the door is a little unexpected. Hoped for, maybe, but definitely unexpected. Slight frown on her face, Nilin moves to open the door.]

Hawke?

[Hawke doesn't say anything lest he over think it. Instead he just acts. Moving forward, Hawke slips an arm around her waist and kisses her.
At the moment his heart races. It's been years since he's felt this way about anyone and just as long since he's kissed someone. He feels almost like a young boy again.

It's soft at first, testing the waters and giving her the opportunity to pull away. If she lets him, he'll deepen the kiss more.]

[Were it anyone else, she'd of retaliated in a less than friendly manner. Anyone else, and they would of been knocked flat on their backside with a black eye to keep them company for the next week or so.

But it's him, and while Nilin does pause for a second before she does anything, she also doesn't push him away. It's a bad idea and she knows it. Before the logical side of her brain can kick into overdrive and start listing all the reasons not to let this happen, Nilin threads a hand in the front of his shirt and kisses him back, taking it a little deeper as she does.]

[When she responds Hawke feels like he could soar right now, but that would mean he'd have to stop kissing her which is something he just doesn't want to do.

As she deepens the kiss so does he, until he finds himself kissing her more passionately than is necessary. Right now Hawke doesn't care. This is what he wants and has been for a long time. All that's changed is that he stopped fighting it.

When he finally pulls it's to fill his lungs with air again. Even the he hates to do so.]

I don't want to regret never doing this.

[Whatever 'this' happens to be.]

[He's more than a little eager and Nilin finds herself oddly alright with it. Kissing him feels right, even if there's a list of reasons why it's wrong.

When they part, Nilin breathes a sigh and looks up at him.]

That was silly.

[But enjoyable and certainly not unwanted. She can't stop a smile.]

We're just making things harder for ourselves.

[Whatever voice in his head telling him this is a bad idea has been squished thoroughly.

When he smiles at her the man looks very happy, and almost a little bit shy.]

I've never been one to do things the easy way.

[She's special, and absolutely worth it.]

[She brings a hand to his cheek and runs her thumb lightly across it.]

So, now that you've done it. Any regrets?

[He's not the only one feeling a little shy.]

[Hawke leans into her hall, obviously enjoying her touch.]

None in the least.

[And if she lets him, he'll absolutely kiss her again.]

[Now that gets a smile.

As for the kiss, well, she lets him. Almost. They're a fraction away from each other when she speaks again.]

Last chance to back out.

[He stops just short of her, his gaze locking with her own.]

If I did...

[Hawke lifts his hand, running it through Nilin's hair.]

Then I really would be a madman.

[That said, he kisses her fully.]
