Hello there! [Toul is smiling and waving her hand at that screen, moving forward and backward as if testing the way the video adjusted to her position.] I’ve never seen the like of this machine before, but it is quite amazing. To be able to record yourself as you are doing something like this is and let others see you in person is wonderful. I’ve never even heard of such a thing even from the big cities back home.

[Then she stops, ears flicking back and forth for a moment, thoughtful.] I believe I have been brought here for some purpose. I am not certain yet what that exact purpose is, but there is always a purpose to where we come to be, isn’t there? I can’t think of a reason I would be riding the back of a large turtle otherwise. [She laughs softly, because she thinks she is far more amusing than she probably really is.] I have heard there are Reptilia here who need help and I will do my best in whatever way you may need me to.

[And then her eyes widen just a bit before she reaches out and lightly raps the knuckles of her hand to the side of her head.] Oh, yes, how silly of me not even give you my name. Apologies! Yes, I do mean them! What are they like? I was amazed to hear there were so many of them here. Turtles are quit scarce where I'm from. [At least where she comes from. She's never actually met many Reptilia at all.]

Big, scaly, way too curious for their own good and right now very, very grumpy.

Grumpy? Did something happen to them? Are they all right?

It's hot and they don't like it. We've dealt with a few temper tantrums already.

[That sound rather frustrating for the turtles, and Toul worries about how they may be handling the heat. She's from a country that had mostly mild weather but it did get a bit humid and sticky in the summer months.]

Oh the poor dears. Is there anything we can do for them? Maybe we could set up a pool for them to cool down in.

Some of us are trying that. Others are getting a little more creative. Still, they're a year old if that. I don't think I ever met a toddler that didn't like to complain.

I haven't met too many children that young, myself. Do they age more like humans or turtles?

[This is actually a very important question for someone from her world. Aging can be quite a confusing thing.]

Like...turtles? I never really bothered to ask.

Oh yes how foolish of me. [She raps her knuckles against the side of her head lightly, a little embarrassed.] The natives here aren't called humans so why would they age like them? That was a poor question to ask.

About your own world, perhaps?

You can if you want but I can sum it with two words. A mess.

Surely it isn't as terrible as that? What are the people like? Is there magic there?

Oh there's magic all right, and it's got everyone's panties in a twist.

[Probably even more so now.]

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand. Does magic not...help people in your world?

Now that depends entirely on who you ask.

[This is getting more and more confusing. Her ears twitch and her head tilts a bit to the side, like she's staring at something she's trying very hard to figure out, but can't quite grasp.]

What do you mean? How are the mystic arts used in your world?

From hurting to healing and everything in between, but it's what people think should be done with mages that's the problem.

Should be done? What do you mean?

[This sounds very different from her world, where Mages are revered and seen as good soldiers and strong statesmen.]

Some people think they should never leave their Circle Towers, others think they all need to be made Tranquil, then you've got people who just want them dead, and after that there's a small few who actually want them free.

And that's just what my people think. I don't even want to go into what the Qunari do with theirs.

[The fact that Tranquil and 'dead' are used separately doesn't make the former seem less unfortunate. Who would use such a lovely word to mean something unpleasant?]

It does appear that magic is greatly misunderstood in your world. I am sorry for that. I do not know what my world would be like if the Mystic Arts did not exist.

[Now that would be the Chantry's fault.]

I told you things were a mess there.

Someone must be working to show people how much good magic can do.

[It's not even a question because she couldn't imagine it otherwise.]

Probably, though there are some better at it than others.

[He thinks back to the incident that chased him out of his home. It might be for the best to not tell her about that, or anyone for that matter.

Then his attitude shifts, becoming slightly more serious.]

Oh, I'm sorry for sounding so presumptuous... I shouldn't have asked that. [Not that she was presuming anything but asking questions can make anyone sound rude.]

I would certainly agree that not everyone who uses magic has um...the kindest of objectives, but magic itself works best when it is in the service of others and making the world better for all of us.
