It has been brought to my attention recently that there are many residing in the city of Keelai who possess an inadequate knowledge of technology. [The statement was meant to be factual, not insulting.] As such, I would be willing to offer my knowledge and expertise to any and all who wish to learn.

Currently, I am employed at Stark Industries as an instructor. However, it does not make sense to me that the local populace should receive instruction that those of us designated as Foreigners do not. And although I am currently prohibited in bringing Foreigners into my classrooms at that location, there are various other resources I could utilize.

[A Pause, to allow this bit of information to sink in. Followed by a second request:]

It is both non-painful and non-invasive, I can assure you, and would require little more than a series of full-body scans, and perhaps some verbal inquiry regarding the precise biometric specifics of your unique species'

I am not certain. I have yet to converse with each individual kedan residing in Keelai, so I cannot make an accurate claim one way or the other.

May I ask what places you have been looking?

[well, at least she's as literal as most of the 'AI' in his time. he notes that down.] Metal District, mostly. It seems the most familiar. So far, my attempts to convince them I can improve their equipment have had mixed success.

[There were a select few colloquialisms and metaphors she had committed to memory, along with prior lessons in linguistic anomalies. But, for the most part, Aya was Oan. Her program had been designed on Oa. She spoke the language of the Guardians, even if the Green Lantern Energy inside her allowed for an automatic translation of all known spoken languages. And Oans were not big on the non-literal.]

It has been my understanding that those who reside in Metal are the most proficient in technological advances.

Perhaps a different District may yield more favorable results?

They're still decades behind. But apparently it's offensive if you point that out. [he'll need to work on his approach; either he's out of practice with the whole 'mild-mannered professor', or that 'Foreigner' status overrules it.]

Then my suggestion would be for you to take every opportunity to scout the areas. I plan on doing the same, in order to assess how much the layout has changed in a year's time.

You said you were a professor in a Technological Institute, correct? How familiar are you with high-level biometric encryptions and firewalls?

Biometrics, only so much. Firewalls- I'm not a hacker by any means, but I know my way around basic security.

[to be fair- when he says 'around basic security', he does mean it. he may not be a professional hacker, but if certain people make it easy to access information...]

My specialty was robotics, though I was an adviser with most student projects.

[The robotics element would have been of personal interest to her, if she still believed her circuits were technology only. There was a reason now she asked about the biological, living sciences too.]

May I inquire as to any specifics? What kind of projects?

One was working on reinventing the wheel - or at least a setup with electromagnetic suspension, to reduce friction. Another was working with laser induced plasma, and miss 'Honey Lemon'...[he chuckles quietly, even if thinking back to their projects does hurt, a bit]...she was more interested in the various applications of chemistry. And then...

[...well, that hurts a bit more. he goes on, anyway, because he's already committed himself]

...another had designed a healthcare robot. Collapsible to only a couple square feet, could inflate itself and use its medical repository at an impressive range of applications.

[For a moment, Aya looked genuinely confused as to how it would be possible to reinvent something. It seemed contradictory in its very nature. One could not invent something that had already been invented. And certainly not a technology so simplistic as the wheel, in which its very nature was contingent upon said simplicity.]

[But then he continued on, and she began to understand. He did not mean a wheel, literally, but rather an alternate method of transportation using a much more sophisticated system. Interesting.]

Was this robot a mere machine, or an Artificially Intelligent being?

[An important distinction to her.]

It was programmed to adapt and learn. He was...certainly pushing the boundaries, at that point. [a forced smile] But Baymax was still dictated by his programming, when all was said and done.

...what 'boundaries'?

[Her face took on an abruptly...neutral expression, though it was clear she took great care to inquire about his particular choice of phrasing. For reasons.]

True AI hasn't been fully developed yet, where I come from. It's being worked on, but as I said, we're still working within the limits of programming. However, within those limits- Baymax had been designed to be able to make a number of decisions on his own, such as to upgrade his information databanks when he believed his own were inadequate.

[True AI.]

[She took note of that term. Curious as to what he might consider as qualification of a true artificial intelligence--such as herself--as opposed to, say, a Manhunter. A machine that lacked the capacity to evolve and grow.]

I do not yet understand the problem.

Would it not prove efficient for a being to be self-aware of their own programming, its flaws, and what may require improvement?

How do you program that self-awareness, though?

How do you make the leap from 'if X, then Y' - and condensing the ability to reason that there are not only twenty-four other letters out there, but that there may very well be an infinite amount of choices to be made?

We're making progress, but we've still got a long way to go.

Self-awareness, to the best of my current understanding, is the naturally-evolving result of a program so highly advanced that it allows itself to learn and grow from all the data it accumulates.

Perhaps your progress would appear limited, but that is because you do not understand what it is like to experience such a transformation. I do.
