[ Jack's taking some time out of his evening to address something that's drawing rather close. As fun as participating in the Mystery Games has been, he feels like someone should maybe point out the elephant on the turtle. He's seated at one of the consoles in the Welcome Center, the recognizable backdrop visible behind him. ]

Sooo... that super-formal Justicar lady sounded like she means business. Is there like-- I don't know, a plan or something? Has anyone even attempted to let the Chihuelans know that someone's coming? Wait, are we even picking sides in that?

[ He runs a hand through his white hair, causing it to spike and settle. At least he looks better in the face of the oppressive outside heat, and less like he's about to melt. ]

Like I'm not in any way favouring the "immediate execution" thing, but if we're not going to stop this group that's coming, then we should be trying to help the others. Doing nothing seems like we're... almost as bad as they are.

Can you really blame them, though?

Somebody not from around here, out of the blue, offers a thinly-veiled threat with almost no chance of sitting down and talking things through. People get pissed when they feel like they're backed into a corner like that.

Actually? Yeah, I can blame them for thinking everything can be solved by punching something else.

Not everything.

[Though she would be a hypocrite if she didn't admit there was a small part of her itching for a fight as well. If it came to that.]

What do you suggest we do? She's already threatened to kill people who don't listen to her. We might not be what she wants, but who's to say she won't label us enemies through association?

What if we could like... I don't know, bribe them to go away or something?

[If she didn't know he was trying to be serious, she might have chuckled a bit. For someone as old as him, Jack could be adorably precious when it came to this sort of thing.]

We could.

Except they don't want money. They want these Chihulean people. Which means, if we're going to bribe them to go away, we basically have to give them what they want. Is that what you think we should do?

Of course not, but bribes don't have to be money. Like, why do they want these people back so badly? If they're that angry at them for failing an invasion, why not just leave them here for the kedan to deal with? It doesn't make sense that a year and a half after the fact, suddenly they're all "wow, we just remembered we don't like these guys".

[She shrugged.]

I don't know. Maybe they didn't know they were here?

[All this playing Devil's Advocate was starting to give her a headache. She sighed and leaned back in her chair.]

I'm not saying one way or the other, Jack. Not yet. We don't know what going to happen until it happens.

Do I want to fight them? Not really. But I'd rather be prepared if it does come to that. This is what I did back home, remember?

[Fight the good fight. Beat the bad guys. Family business and all.]

[ Zatanna's hypothetical didn't make any sense to him; if they'd been sent as an invasion force, where else did the Chihuelan mainland think they'd gone? ]

I want to be prepared too for a fight too, but as a last resort, not as a first one.

We won't go out swinging--[She cut herself off, though, and quickly amended:]--okay, most of us won't go out swinging the minute they show up.

[There was always at least one person who would.]

If it does come down to that last resort, though...what will you do?

They'd better not, I don't really want to have to put myself in the way of that. I will, but I won't look forward to it.

I don't know, but I'm not going to let there be another battle like the one we missed last year.

I guess we won't know what happens until it happens.

[There was little else she could say on the matter. If it came down to fighting, would she? Absolutely. But only if necessary. Like she told Jack before; that's what she and the Team did back home. What the Justice League was for. Taking down the bad guys.]

[ Jack huffs out a frustrated groan. ]

That is the worst plan, and I can't even think of a better one.

Well...maybe you're overthinking things right now.

Why don't you get out for a little bit? We could go for a walk. Clear your head with some of that fresh air I keep hearing so many good things about. It might help.

Yeah. Sure.

[ He doesn't especially feel like it, but he also knows sitting here stewing won't help either. ]

[This wasn't going to be the last of things. She could tell by the look on his face. Also because she knew him.]
