Uh, it's an insect! It's green and jumps a lot...though it's also how you call someone who's, ehm, young or inexperienced.

Grasshoppers are large, generally venomous insects. Very unpleasant. Saw a man's leg drop off because one bit him.

Poetic? I believe you're the first to say that.

[He never thought his name to be anything particularly special. And where he's from, it's not. The idea of giant venomous insects taking people's legs isn't so unusual either. Which shows by his reaction of only being mildly surprised.]

It's a type of insect. Lives in grass and hops around a lot... hence the name, I suppose.

[A pause as the Irishman thinks about this.]

I have no idea why anyone would want to call someone that, though. I didn't even know they had grasshoppers here. You can normally hear them.
