I've been paying Enjolras to keep the paperwork for the Jade Dojo in order, because frankly I can't be bothered to do it myself. He's left Keeliai now, and I haven't gained any new incentive to take it up.

[ He considered adding more to that; Enjolras had been here a long time, far longer than Bakura has been. Ultimately, he decides to keep it succinct. ]

If that's something you can do competently once or twice a week, say so here.

Hi, I'm Tim Drake. I'm reasonably competent in terms of paperwork, bookkeeping, and the like. If you can tell me what you need done, I should probably be able to manage it.

[ Bakura inclines his head at the introduction. ] Bakura.

Most of the kedan pay by the visit, those who come merely to practice pay one fee, those who train under Gene or Valdis pay more, and both of them are paid weekly. The dojo goes through mats and targets every few weeks, which need to be replaced, and I'm still paying for heat in May because the collective decided it was a good idea to anchor the turtle against an aspiring glacier.

[Tim laughs a little at the glacier comment.]

Yeah, it is a little unseasonably cold. All of that sounds pretty doable. I think I can handle it, if you're still looking for someone.

There is one other thing: that you won't ask too many questions, if large sums deposited show up from time to time.

[ Occupational hazard of being employed by a thief, Tim. ]

[He considers for a moment.] Well, despite being pathologically curious, I'm sure I can keep my questions to myself.

[Provided no one's getting hurt. Then all bets are off.]

Then come by, and I'll show you what you'll need.

I'll tell you the same as I told Enjolras: there isn't enough work to need to come by more than once or twice a week, so I don't care what times or days you choose, so long as it gets done. 50 juulan for you at the end of each week.

[ It's an oddly high sum, for the described amount of work weekly. Perhaps Bakura knows enough to pay for someone keeping those questions to themselves? ]

[A slight eyebrow raise at the named amount, but--as promised--he keeps any comments to himself. He's not about to complain.] All right. When would you like me to come by?

Tomorrow morning. The dojo opens at sun up, anytime after that is fine.

I'll be there.

[And he is. Bright and early--maybe not exactly at dawn, but not long afterward either. He glances around until he find Bakura--so far, nothing is really surprising him. He's seen plenty of dojos, and this one of fairly similar to the ones he's familiar with.

He nods in greeting.]

Hi. I'm Tim--we spoke yesterday.

[ Bakura nodded in greeting, having been watching one of the practice fights, but turns away from it at Tim's approach. ]

So we did. You've been here a few months already, haven't you? Did you not get a job before this?

[ There's no judging in the question; it's an honest curiosity. ]

[He shrugged.]

Not anything formal. I've been helping out around the Welcome Center, and wherever else I can. [He grinned a little.] I've enjoyed having a flexible schedule.

[ Bakura could certainly appreciate the benefits of that. ]

Well, as I said -- so long as it gets done each week, I don't care when you're here to do it. Even after hours, if need be... I'm usually here anyway, I live in the back half of the building.

[ He gestured to the north side, through rich the small apartment had been added since the dojo's original construction. ]

Do you have any questions about specifics?

[He nodded a little.] Well, it would be nice to see what I'm working with. [He was pretty sure he could extrapolate a lot of the specifics from that.] And you don't seem to have a front desk kind of setup. How do you know who's settled up, and who hasn't?

How much does it pay?

[ He can roll with anything, and can appreciate the absence of pointless chatter. ]

[ A notably high sum, enough in one week for an average place's rent in most parts of the city. ]

What does that mean? How much is a loaf of bread?

[ Oh, this was a very new one. Bakura had been so distracted over the last month, he hadn't paid much attention to the new arrivals, beyond the fact that... people were still arriving. Even that hadn't been certain, with the temporary Foreigners who'd so recently disappeared. ]

Two loaves for one juulan, usually. What currency are you used to?

[ If it was something Earth based, he might be able to provide a reasonable idea of conversation. ]

[Excuse you, alien man. He doesn't need to give you any information about where he's from kthx.]

Good enough. I'll take the job if you can teach me the specifics.

[ Even though he's already got an offer, this one's interesting, and that's worth almost as much. ]

Very well. Do you know where the Wood Sector is?

I'm sure if I follow the Yellow Brick Road, I can find it. Where and when?

Tomorrow, at midday.

[ That was a fairly busy time at the dojo, and Bakura was interested to see how this one reacted to the various stimuli. ]

What is your name?

Penny.

Bakura. I will see you tomorrow, then.

[Penny's not afraid of asking around. He almost gets in a fight at one point with some less friendly kedan, but manages to avoid the scuffle and get back on track. A few more questions and he figures out he's been living in the water sector and gets directions to the wood sector. The magician tries to tap into his abilities, but the conditions are still too unstable to risk the trip and so he ends up walking and then later hitching a ride on a wagon in exchange for some food he stole not long before.

He arrives to the area early, gets directions, and arrives to the actual dojo a few minutes late. Penny struts into the place, glancing over the melee and chaos of the place without much interest, looking for the white-haired kid who offered him the job. He's concerned about being late, but it's not like he's about to admit to his punctual ways.]

You Bakura? [He asks the only white-haired guy he can find, gaze drifting to watch some of the fights.]

[ Bakura's rather unassuming in person, and although he's aged from his initial arrival appearance, he easily looks at least five years younger than the mid-20's age he claims. The good news as far as an employer went, he's was fairly lax so long as the work got done, and he didn't care that much about schedules, and he doesn't comment on Penny's arrival time. 'Midday' is a fairly loose term, in any case. ]

Looks like you found your yellow bricks. You're not wasting much time in getting a job, if you're such a new arrival. Not content with the charity of others?
