That makes it sound like an ill-wish. Why would you want someone's wishes to burn?

I don't know... fire triangle, source of ignition, source of fuel, oxygen to burn. No oxygen in space, too many unanswered wishes.

I didn't realize there were physical rules binding the mechanisms of wishes.

In idle moments, perhaps. They were discouraged when I was growing up. We were encouraged to stick to practical and visible.

[ River knows a bit about that. When she was quite young, her parents indulged her strange ways with a bit of forced humour... but as she got older, that effect waned. Only Simon had ever maintained a genuine interest in the oddities she dreamt up. ]

Who discouraged them?

Any whimsy was thoroughly beaten out by the time I met any human authority figure.

Cephalon: of zoology. In some arthropods, especially trilobites, the region of the head, composed of fused segments. From the Greek kephalē, meaning 'head'.

[ But she doesn't really understand what the relevance is. ]

That's really good. Most people don't know that. Are you a biologist too?

Cephalons in this context are 'artificial intelligences' though. The Orokin employed them for a multitude of purposes.
