[ the comm flips to life with the face of ariadne looking almost deep in thought for a moment (this whole place is a lot to take in) before she is sighing deeply, letting her hand unconsciously start to rub at the back of her neck, as she calmly ask: ] I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what year it is?

[ that's a simple question for a projection, right? ]

I mean, my friend and I...well we're new.

[ which hopefully will give her some type of leniency with others (though she is doubtful and can only smile somewhat awkwardly because of it) ]

...and I guess we would just like some type of idea what we’re up against here, or maybe where we're all coming from.

[ it's a vague question, and one that she isn't fully sure she will like the answer of. but at least it is something that might get them closer to understanding this whole mess. because lets face it, the natives aren't exactly the most helpful of people. ]

How is any of this even possible? I mean, Homes pretty run-of-the-mill where I'm from.

Yeah. Taller, with a few differences, but...well, there were similarities. Way too many to just be coincidence.

[Like, the odds of this just being somebody pulling a prank would be somewhere close to whatever the odds were of being struck by lightning seven times while being attacked by a shark. In Utah.]

As for how it's possible, I can't really help you much. All they tell us when we show up is that we were all pulled here for a reason, that...well, you probably got the speech too. They give it to everyone.

As for where I'm from, I'm just a kid from New York. Not that I know which New York, but unless you're familiar with lunatics with names like Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin, it's probably not yours.

[ there's always a chance forgers could be somewhat different after all, and they could even apparently be anything (even comicbook character?) they want to be. ] Interesting.

[ and all she can do is nod slowly in understanding to it. though, okay, she really can't help but look slightly skeptical at that, not fully sure what to say at first. ]

New York's not like that for me. [ a beat ] Do you have any idea why you were brought here?

Not really. Supposedly, we're here to protect this place from something, but no one's ever said what we're supposed to be protecting it from.

Ask any of the locals a question about it, and they usually just say it's the Emperor's business and stop answering questions. I've been here nearly two months and none of them have ever answered any question about the specifics of this place or why we're here.

[ her brow just furrows deeply at that, nodding slightly in understanding (well as much understanding as she had) ]

Yeah, I've noticed they all seem to love to be vague here. You'd think they'd be willing to offer more information if in fact we are here to help like they say.

You'd think. Maybe they're just hoping whatever it is will be so obvious once it shows up that we won't need to be told what it is.

[That or they're just terrible at self-preservation, but Pete's kind of giving them the benefit of the doubt here.]
