[He had spent the better portion of the day wandering around the city. Ducking and diving between crowds of people, and doing his best to stay out of the spotlight - which was far harder than he'd like to admit being a 'foreigner' decked out in futuristic space armor.
Needless to say, after having spent a good few hours gathering intel and having a constant stream of people talking to him about what to expect while he was stuck here (among other things), being able to sit down was a small blessing in and of itself. Something that those watching the camera's feed might be able to pick up on, as the ODST carefully leaned back in his chair, and stared up at the cafe's ceiling with a lengthy sigh.]
"Can't say I'm pleased to be here, but it's an upgrade from magical books." [Then again, giant turtles aren't really swinging in the opposite direction. Something he knows, but he'll hold his tongue on that.]
"Would say I'm impressed by how you guys have this whole welcoming stuff down to a science, but I'm still trying to comprehend most of it. Even then, there's usually a lot more going on than what's on the complimentary pamphlet."
[It's then that his visor lowers towards the screen, and a tick of silence passes by, before he's shifting forwards to properly address those behind it.]
"So, straight to the point; is there anything around here that I should be wary of? Threats, dangers, etcetera."

[Just sayin'.]
Also, how well does that fancy bike helmet of yours filter out toxins?
no subject
[The question gets a shrug, though, followed by a leveled look from his visor at the 'bike helmet' comment.]
It's vacuum-sealed, so well enough. Is the air poisonous here or something?
no subject
[He's ignoring the levelled look.]
They told ya about the riots a few weeks back, right?
no subject
[Rook was far more qualified to handle terrorist groups than say, dragons, after all.]
And I've heard bits and pieces. Hard to really get a feel on details when one's never been here before.

No, sir. They seemed to have left that detail out. [...] How mandatory are we talking?
no subject
[Fletch's tone is deadly serious.]
Wait... You talked to the locals?
no subject
Had to. Figured they could answer whatever questions I had, though some were more helpful than others.
[May have almost gotten in a fight with a few, but that was neither here nor there.]
no subject
Oh, no... This is bad. This is very bad.

video (aaah you can drop ""s I'm just dumb *^* <3)
Didn't see the harm in asking for specifics though. Tends to help me get a feel on where I stand in all of this.

Like a dust storm? Or is there something special about this type?

video;
[Beautiful woman, very faintly Irish accent, a smile that doesn't reach her eyes.]
Gang violence is apparently on the decline, after all. Keep in mind that at least half the Foreigners are more dangerous than they appear, think before you act, and you should be fine, darling.
video;
Don't think you have to worry about me getting into too much trouble, but the advice is still appreciated, ma'am.
[Well, at least for now. Who knows if that'll change down the road.]
video;
Miss Sorrows will do.
[She tilts her head.]
I'm hardly worried. You look as though you can take whatever's thrown at you.
Tell me, what lies in your interests?
video;
Alright, Miss. Sorrows. [His helmet moves in a way that might reflect amusement, but subtle armor expressions can be hard to pick up at times.] Think you're giving me too much credit, though. I've ran into enough stuff to know that's not always the case.
But aside from knowing any obvious threats, not much. At least, nothing that I couldn't figure out just by wandering the city on foot.
video;
No? I suppose the development of such impressive armor must have been precipitated by a need, after all.
[This said a bit airily.]
Related or unrelated to those magical books?

I guess, I've just been acting as if nothing is and figuring it out as I go.
(A once, probably still, necessary habit.)

[His voice leans away from the usual soldier-like firmness to something amicable, as he continues.]
But I've heard a little about the riots as well. Some locals didn't seem too happy about it.
no subject
(Marie thinks this over then pauses.) Oh, you know there is something I heard. Someone mentioned to me that if we end up popping back to where we are originally from...we forget everything that happened here. Did anyone mention that to you yet? I don't know how true that is, but she sounded very sure about it.
no subject
And no, but that's... usually how these places go. Had the same thing happen from where I was just pulled from - not my home world, but somewhere else. Kind of surprised I even recall that place at all, actually.
[Mm. Part of him wishes he didn't, but them's the breaks.]
no subject
Usually? (She frowns.) I, I mean...I never heard of anyone forgetting about the place I was at for a little while before here.
I guess it was a little bit like this. ("Like" meaning - she was tossed here without her wanting it to be.) But, well, I suppose that probably means I got a bit lucky.
(Marie is of the opinion that forgetting, even if it was forgetting something bad, was worse than remembering and being uneasy or worse because of it.)
