We knew where each other stood, and trusted our priorities. Also, I believe you're the one who's punched me the most since I've been here.

[That, really, is the most damning evidence Costigan's heard in regards to his being here before.]

Allies or enemies?

[Because, lbr, punching doesn't preclude getting along.]

[ There's no duplicity in the quick response, nor is there any need to butter it up; that's as good as term as any. ]

[ There had been instances of something more than a strictly self-advantageous relation though. Although it took some time to get to that point. Hence the punching.

[Because that's the only reason a useful ally wasn't a friend. Well, one of the main reasons. The person was duplicitous enough to merit suspicion.]

Yes, occasionally.

[ They had their own unique skills. Costigan worked information, Bakura dealt in deception. Their preferences complimented each other depending on the investigation. Bakura may not have been a fan of Evandau's -- in fact, insulting the former Commander/Emperor had earned one of those punches he'd mentioned before -- but the thief acknowledged that Costigan stepping into the law enforcement role had been good, overall, for the city. ]

Was that list of names the only thing of yours that you recovered?

A box of files. My files, my handwriting. Trying to remember faces with the names.
