I need the professional opinion of a botanist and chemist well versed in the elements and compounds of this world.

[ Unfortunately his knowledge just doesn't cover it. For the moment. ]

Meet me at the university lab.

I need to show you something. Can you be at the University lab within the hour?

There are a few organic and inorganic compounds I'm not familiar with, but then I am only from Earth. One thing I do recognise though- [ He holds up one finger. ] is the clear DNA-like structure. I can't tell yet if we should classify it as a parasite or virus but given what we know about it I'm more inclined to say it's the former.
[ He gets up to grab another slide ]
Now this is just an earlier batch, more recently the compounds have changed slightly creating this.
[ he pulls the current slid out and moves in the new one. ]
It's dying-not moving nearly as fast because it can't stablise. With the correct amount of experimenting it would be theoretically possible to get it stablise but this version is particular aggressive when introduced to other organic compounds.

I'm not sure that helping it stabilize is the best route to take. We need to find a way to kill it.

Whatever it is, I'm of the impression it'd be very dangerous to the host. I've only used fish blood in my experimentation so far-I might use a live one soon to see how it changes the fish since it seems to react to any organic compounds.
no subject
Do it. We need to know how it affects a living creature and if we can cure it afterward.

For obvious reasons I can't use the real thing. Though-you did say that the foreigners return after death-how about the Kedan? Is there a morgue where corpses can be donated to science?
no subject
[She thought about his other idea.]
There is a morgue, I'm sure we can procure a body or two. But it is the changes in behavior that I am most concerned about.
no subject
I'm not sure how the host body would react and we don't want to be dealing with any reanimation.
[ Since here that might be a legitimate concern. ]

Shall we say able to move again?

Okay. So I suppose I'll have to- [ He makes a face because of how stupid it sounds. ]- restrain the bodies while running the experiment.

Their souls were not present...but I'm not sure that makes them zombies...
[Who is she kidding? They were zombies]
no subject
[ He mutters under this breath. ]
I was never one to indulge in the idea of a zombie apocalypse. With the host dead there should be no way for the parasite to continue living as well.
[ Key word being "Should." Which is why precautions are going to be needed. ]
I'll let you know if I find anything else. Since it can't stabilize, it's unlikely to do much when introduced to a corpse.

[Valdis is not convinced]
no subject
However, it can't and after several tries falls inert. That's why the red Dust has such a shorter life span.

[The old tongue gave way to what only could be a long string of swear words]
Their God. They want their God.
no subject
[ He's not yet done with his experiments but the conclusion seems inescapable. ]
Obviously, this isn't information we want getting out. Best to keep it between you, John, and I.
