[Fai is once again in the kitchen of the Midnight Hotel, this time wearing a plain old white apron instead of his frilly pink one (and of course, the ever-present eyepatch over his left eye). He's got his handset propped up on the counter and he's sitting with his elbows on the counter and his chin in his hands, and there's a book of some sort laying open between him and the screen.]

Hello again, everyone! I was wondering: how many of you out there like to cook? Or even if you don't really like it, how many of you have recipes you might be willing to share? [One hand drops down to pat the book in front of him] I'm trying to collect some new ideas for things to make.

Even if you can't really remember the exact recipe, if you know the basic ingredients I might be able to work off of that! And I'd be willing to share the results, of course~

I love to cook. I generally do it at the shelter kitchen, but I'd kill for some enchiladas. Or some good old fashioned stew. I could make gumbo, though. I can share some recipes, if you'd like.

I don't think I know what those are, or 'gumbo.' Are they from Earth?

They are. Enchiladas are a Mexican food. My best friend's mother taught me how to make them. Gumbo is a Cajun dish.

Ah--I'm afraid I'm not from Earth, so I don't recognize those terms either. I'd be interested to try them, though!

...unless they're fish. Are they fish?

Ah, my apologies, I thought you were. I can show you how to cook them. Gumbo has shellfish in it. The enchiladas can be vegetarian, or with meat.

No need to apologize! There seem to be a lot of people here from Earth, so it's an understandable assumption to make. Mm, I'd rather stick to things without fish, though. I should have mentioned that!

What are 'enchiladas' like?

Enchiladas are a tortilla wrapped dish. Then they're baked with a sauce and cheese. I can teach you how to make them, if you'd like. Either in the shelter kitchen or at the hotel.

I don't see why not! What kinds of things do you make?

Hot pockets. Breakfast burritos. Refrigerated leftovers that other people who are actually good at cooking have made.

Ah, I see. [He keeps smiling, even though he... only vaguely understands most of that. The refrigerated leftovers part makes sense enough at least.]

Do you not enjoy cooking, or have you never learned how?

Largely the latter. We have a full kitchen staff at home, and cooking doesn't seem to be the norm in at college in Orange Star.

[He nods] Well, I spend most of my days cooking in the kitchen at the Hotel. You're welcome to stop by for a little lesson here or there, whenever you're free!

I don't know that name, but I've had something called a pork bun before--one of my companions comes from a world where they're common. Can you describe it, and maybe we can tell if they're the same thing?

Yes, I've had those before! It might take me a while to get it right, since I've never made them before and I don't know the exact ingredients, but I can give it a try!
